CFB Borden Service CQB Clinic 18 July 09

I agree. What I meant to say was that if people had issues with this, you could score the match in two classes- carbine and SMG.

I don't think that'll be an issue, I say run it as is for a few years, and if there is a significant statistical difference between SMG and Carbine shooters, then subdivide into classes.

Hey guys, do you have any comments on your slings and the way they're mounted? I was having a bit of a hard time with mine. When i let it hang down, the barrel would touch my legs and it was a little "hot" not very pleasant and quite in the way when walking.

Alex: Longer legs, or shorter barrel? :)

Mine was good, except for the way that it would flip my gun upside down from time to time if I didn't have it slung perfectly vertically. Would be nice if the sling mouts for the AR was on the side of the gun rather than on the bottom. Anyone have a fix for that one?

there is this, it mounts on the FSB.

or other similar systems that can be mounted on rails.

I wore long pants for that very same reason. I use a BFG victory two point sling. My Stag has a side sling swivel in the front and I have a MOE stock that has a vertical attachment point in the butt plate.I hang the sling over the right shoulder and under the left arm. For the most part it works pretty good, but I think the occasional leg touch is inevitable.

Like 22ivan, I have an almost identical setup. I have a side mounted sling adapter that sits right behind the receiver. Attached to that is a breachers single point sling. When you drop the rifle it hangs directly between your legs. Only problem is running when it's like that, so when you know you are going to have to move with the pistol in hand, you need to swing it around so it bumps along on your hip.

Alex, I can't remember how you were set up on your rig?

If I were the one making the rules (and I'm not :D) I would say that the carbine must shoot at a minimum a rifle cartridge of .223 or more. Using small pistol calibers kinda defeats the purpose, that being to test your skill with the carbine. Managing the minimal recoil of a modern rifle caliber carbine is one of those skills IMHO.

For example, yes a 9mm carbine is easy but so is standing 1m away from the target for the whole match ;).
Depends on what you want to practice... There are benefits to starting small and working out all the macro flaws before you start fine tuning with the heavier cartridges and working out your micro flaws. To each their own :)

I have a BFG VCAS 2 point sling, rear point mounted in the vertical slot of my CTR and front point attached to the sling swivel. I had the sling over my right shoulder and under my left arm.

I'm in for any sort of fun games. To be honest I like 9 for this but if I have to warm up my 556 barrel I'm game too.:rockOn: I' easy :)

I just got an IDF sling with two small lengths of rope. I'm actually very happy with the versatility of this simple sling. It is simply and works good on a few guns. Something like this might Work with your gun.

Hey Alex, our set up is pretty much the same- except that I have a side mount sling swivel like the one you pictured from Questar. I think it would make a big difference for you if you are having difficulties. If you have a railed forearm there are all kinds of options for side attachments.

Hmmmm.. I'll have to look into that, thanks for the link Alex.

I tinkered with my sling a bit tonight and where it was bound to the sling mounts on the gun, and I think I've got it working well with no flipping over now. Just needed some messin' with. Works well and looks good in front of the mirror, which is what counts isn't it? :>

We need to get ourselves some sort of morale patch that says mirror commando or something like that. What do you guys think?

So here is a dumb question.. maybe.

I've never heard of CQB clinics out east where I am. Are they open to civies or is it all military and LEO? If it is open to all, how do I get on a mailing to find out when it is. I would fly anywhere in Canada to participate in something fun like that.
