Well you SK, AB, and BC CQB types, we did our first ever CQB clinic (well, day one anyways) here in SK and it was super successful (read: no safety infractions and range evictions) :ninja:

18-19 July 2013 is the epic date for the SK CQB lovers.... :)

Yes, the ORA (Ontario Rifle Association) is here in SK doing the clinics and bringing CQB joy to all the black (and green and FDE) rifle owners. Time to re-inject even more fun into shooting sports here out West.

We had cloud cover for most of the morning so that the sun fornication did not occur until later in the afternoon.

As usual, we started with the pistol skills and drills:

* trigger tapping
* Sight Picture recitation
* Safety on Drills
* dry firing ... all the while reciting the best mantra "Sight picture, sight picture."
* Pistol zeroing
* Pistol snap drills
* Pistol rapid fire drills

Then we had lunch and charged into our carbine drills just like the pistol fun.

Anybody love that modified prone and the 'gopher holes' dug by the fancy gucci muzzle brakes?

How did the dust signature from firing snaps and rapids work for your tactical glasses and shemagh you guys were wearing? It seems these Saskachetoonie (from movie: Grownups with Adam Sandler) CQB'ers are used to dust storms, many of them turned up with shemaghs unlike the Ontario Multicam dudes. :nest:

What else did you guys take away on the first day? :D

Git ready for day 2 tomorrow....

Woooohoooo!

Cheers and peace be the journey,

Barney

Grate day, I learned a ton, it was like drinking from a fire hose lol

Ended up spending 3 hours longer than planned on the range as the weather was perfect and everyone was in the zone.

And a BIG thanks to Cabelas Saskatoon and Canadatargets.com for providing prizes and targets for this event.

Shawn

Nobody felt and imminent #### loss coming on! :evil:

ha ha ha ha ha Time to rack out. It's been a long day with the CQB newbies. Hey it's not just you Bantario guys having all the CQB fun. Pictures coming up soon! We are just too beat up tonight! Gotta go to bed...

Cheers all :wave:

It's almost 2000 hrs and I am in Kindersley, SK, 200 kliks away from Dundurn, SK. I wanted to get some driving done before hitting Turner Valley, AB where I start my drive to Whistler, BC to join my 2 boys on the west coast. Then we do the Pemberton, BC CQB clinic on Tues and Wednesday.

It's been a wonderful but warm (both senses of the word) stay in Dundurn at the 4 days of shooting camp fun. Many thanks go out to:

* Base Comdr who gave us the green light and this clinic happened
* Ops WO of Range Control who trusted in pointman/organizer Shawn and then myself
* Shawn, our point man who organized and booked the ranges, drew the stores from Supply
* Shawn's dad who put up with my stale jokes about life in the Battalion (PPCLI) with my Newf buddies
* All the Range Control patrollers who had to deal with me while I chatted with them, it was for the air conditioned room
* All of you SK shooters who tolerated my "put down yer purse jokes" and made fun of your manhood
* All of you SK CQB lovers who graciously complimented me the entire shooting camp, I am humbled.

So where are the photos and videos? I was running the practice match and the match so I could not record the "Fire and Movement" match.

Cheers and thanks, :wave:

I wish I didn't get int archery this year after taking this course! Its goona be awesome to see a lot more of this in Saskatchewan!. The most fun Ive had and SQ and BIQ.

Barney, not one Hawaiian shirt among them!:sok2

Continue to ridicule them until they are comfortable in shooting while being fashionable.

hmmmm.........things i learned............let see now.......

1)well my #### almost fell off when I tried cheating by running another 10 yards in front of the firing line to engage my fig 11 target.........i was wondering what all the commotion was about and why everyone stopped firing and was yelling at me! I thought maybe they were cheering me on and admiring my deadly ninja skills! But luckily Barney with his "megaphone of justice" saved the day and got me all straightened out and saved my #####! I could of sworn it was the yellow line we had to run to, not the pink one..............i swear!

2) my #### almost fell off again when my browning high powa numba one fell out of its holster whilst running ahead during the move and fire excercise! all in the zone.......moving and firing.........dump my last AR mag.............drop the rifle to my chest and reach down for high powa number one.............and.............and............its gone.............holster is empty.............god.........i could of died of shame right then and there................but alas barney with his "megaphone of justice" saved the day and set us back on the narrow path............how many times can one's #### fall off during a day?!

3)and just like a cool party on a friday night, or the beach on a sunny afternoon............if you wear a beret, you will prolly end up getting your butt kicked..........lol.........dont ask! long story!

Folks.........this is money well spent............and a HUGE thanks goes out to the staff of CFB Dundurn that allowed this to happen. Regina is a totally lame place for interactive dynamic shooting sports that Barney coaches and teaches. The Fudds around here that rule the local ranges with an iron fist and mothballs in their shorts just wont allow it. They would absolutely die before letting guys like us have some fun, and learn SAFE and RESPONSIBLE ways to shoot in the real world, be it hunting, sport shooting, or whatever. Shawn, Ken, and the rest of the guys that were key in letting this happen, you cant know how much us civvie types appreciate it!

I have taken a couple of courses with Barney now, and people, he does a damned good job of it. No matter your experience level, you will leave at the end of the day with more skills than you walked in with. Guaranteed. From relatively new guys like myself to this style of shooting........to hardened pros, Barney can and will help you learn and leave a better person than when you walked in. As a newbie, when I walk into a course like this, and see guys in the forces that I definitely look up to and feel damned humble standing next to, this really tells me that I have come to the right place. This is the real deal, and you wont find a better teacher (and just a damned nice, truly genuine personality) than Barney!

And just for the record, Barney seemed concerned that my overly fancy AR with the gorgeous laminate wood stock set was a sign of femininity...........but last time I checked, I was the only guy with an AR platform that weighed as much as an M1 Garand, while the rest of you beotches carried around little girlie light weight AR's to match your purses! HA! .........just wanted to set the record straight on that one barney.............hahahahaha!

yuk yuk yuk :D

All good learning, grasshoppa!

There is no TRY, just do! (Yoda)

I'm still sunbaked after my drive to Calgary, tomorrow, I drive to Whistler and visit with my son in Alta Vista! :wave:

Cheers,
Barney

Thanks Barney for coming to see us flatlanders! I really enjoyed your clinic and your a fun teacher :)

I'd have to say I really liked your "sight picture" thing the most because it works! At first I felt like an idiot saying sight picture over and over again but then after a hundred or so times I noticed my front sight better and my sight picture became more still.

I enjoyed learning a new game to play with my AR15. :)

It was helpful for me to just get out and use my AR15 as I only got it 2 1/2 months ago.

I loved the nice Barrett .338 you brought out but it was a real tease when you had no ammo for it.

Tired today after running my butt off trying to keep up with all the big army guys but it was worth it.

Hope to see you again soon Barney. Thanks Shawn and Ken for setting up and running the clinic.

As a matter of fact....my AR15 does match my purse! LOL cou: Had fun talking with ya' all.

My after action report for the Dundurn CQB clinic.

Who was there?
Shooters. Some military, some civies, but people who like action shooting.
The point is, this course will work for beginners and pros.

What did they do?
Well, lots of shooting. Point shooting, transition to secondary, reloads under stress for both rifle and pistol.
All the fun stuff.

Things that worked?
My rifle and pistol worked great (Colt AR and a Glock 17 if anyone is wondering).
This type of shooting seems to favour the ARs. A collapsible stock and single point sling are a plus.
Quality holster and mag pouches. (Serpa, HSGI, Tactical Tailor)
Marking my mags so I can find them and tell them from my neighbours (I used bright tape, and wrote my name, number, and mag number on it).

Things that I would do different?
Paint my front sight so I can find it faster.
I would try shooting with gloves more. My hands got beat up from driving the guns hard.

What did I take away from it?
A real test of my equipment.
Fundamentals of marksmanship to practice. (Sight picture...click)
I learned my weak points to work on (shooting while moving for one).

Would I do this again?
Hell Yes!

A big thanks to Barney for coming out to teach.
Thanks to Shawn, Ken, and the staff at CFB Dundurn that made this possible.
I look forward to shooting with you again.
