Dad is currently on the phone with the CFC and is having a few issues. I'm typing this in hopes he won't break the computer in anger. The first time he called the guy from the CFC told him that they want him to apply for his Smith and Wesson #3 as a registered hand gun and then they will change it to an antique later and send him the letter. When Dad asked when that started happening, the guy told him they changed it in the summer. Dad asked to speak to his supervisor and was put on hold. A few minutes later he heard a click and voices and then was cut off. He called back and has been put on hold for the last 10 minutes. He wants to know if anyone else has ever heard of this or had these problems.

Yes, I've heard some horror stories. Its insane! Don't agree to have the handgun registered as restricted or prohibited if it is, in fact, an antique. These short cuts are the crux of all the problems and inaccuracies that the gun registry has to date. What a mess! Maybe your dad should register his hand drills while he's at it. :rolleyes:

And if it had a short barrel making it prohibited. Would they register it. Just so it could be de-registered and deemed an antique. :confused: I may have to try this.
 
Just got off the phone with Micheline. What a world of difference! She was polite courteous, and even apologized for her co-workers attitude.
If you have a PAL, they would like the # to be able to send you a new letter, without having to apply for a new one? Some how that doesn't sound right to me-same as registering afaic!!
Next time they won't be getting my #. Will see what happens. If there is a way to hang us, them lousy LIBTARDS will find it, won't they?!
Anyway, gotta start looking for brass, bullets, etc.

Seems to me that the reason they want it registered and then deregistered is that then the gun is on record and the RCMP can later change the rules and declare the gun modern and think they know where it is. In effect the RCMP are creating an unofficial registry of antiques.

I don't worry about giving them my PAL. If you give them your name and address, they can just look up your PAL# in their own database.
 
A friend of mine brings in antique revolvers all the time. There is no requirement to register them, they are not registerable!!!

Neither were shotguns and rifles at one time too!! The government is just trying to make an unofficial record of this gun,just in case the rules change,as they see fit.

That is what makes it so frustratingly stupid. Obviously , my antiques are not mine anymore , the second they start looking for them. Some are already gone , who knows where !
 
I bought a Remington New Model with a factory .46 rimfire conversion this past summer that was previously registerd. They wouldn't transfer the reg. to me but it took them 3 months to get it deregistered and the letter to me.

that is because only the registered owner can apply to have it deregistered and because they cannot transfer registration for a gun which should not be registered (because it is an antique)
