Today I called the CFC (18007314000) Because I was wondering wether or not I had missed their call for my RPAL. Oh by the way I'm requesting service in french...

So when I asked if they had been trying to contact me the following discussion happened:
-Why would we call you?
-Well I've been told you needed to contact me because the RPAL requires a more strick procedure!
-Oh no, we never call people for that

Maybe I'm wrong afterall but all I keep reading out here is: THEY CALLED ME AND MY REFERENCES!

They called me for the same info, most other people say so as well. Maybe she was confused as to what you were asking?

I know they never called me to tell me they only had my incomplete address, they waited untill I called wondering where my license was.

Day 1: Order my restricted from Marstar
.......
Day 10: Got call from CFC with a question: Did you send us your LTATT application with copy of your gun club membership card ?
Day10: My reference (only 1 out of 2) got call form CFC with a question about me and my intentions to get a handgun

CFP wont, RCMP will.

So in order to get my RPAL if I need to be called, the RCMP will call me right? But many people in here who have waited for more than 45 days call somewhere to find out something is missing or stuff like that

who do they call? who do I have to call?

this is getting pretty messed up...

so who am I calling if I want my rpal after the mendatory 45 days?:p

The procedure...

YOU fill out your paperwork and mail it all off to Mirimachi, NB to CFC.

CFC processes your paperwork and forwards it to the RCMP in your province c/o the CFO.

RCMP conduct the background check, phone your references and you and then approve or decline the restricted approval.

Then they complete the paperwork and sent it back to CFC in Miramichi, NB

Then, they wait until the remaining time to comply that the "30" day waiting period is complete before sending you your RPAL card in the mail. 45 days is the average time they say it will be completed in, so if you have not heard from anyone in 45 days, then call the CFC to find out what the problem might be.

So, once you get your RPAL, THEN join a gun club, get a copy of your club membership card.

Fill out a LTATT form and submit to the CFO of your province, WITH a copy of your membership card attached. If you do not provide this copy now, you will not get a LTATT, at least you won't in BC, AB and SK. Dunno yet about eastern canada.

hope this helps.

having just gone through this heres what seems to happen If you haven't heard anything after 60 days you call the firearms center and what they will tell you is usually the forms are in the hands of the local cfo of your province. If after some more time you call the 1-800 number on the cfo web site and they think enough time has passed the will transfer you to your local cfo office and the you get to talk to someone there. As I had started my renewal in plenty of time I had to wait 90 days for all this to happen. If they need a copy of your club membership they will sent a letter to you.and you have to fax the copy to them.AS I had a rpal they sent the ATT I had it 4 days after the phone call but have yet to see the RPAL renewal

You may want to join a club now, even though you dont have your RPAL, that way you can complete any club level requirements, courses, safety sign-offs while you patiently wait for your RPAL to show up. Likely they will not endorse you for a LTATT without finishing their club level requirements.

Remember: Volunteer, meet new people and keep it fun.
