I am just getting back into the restricted side of things.
One handgun I have tentatively bought is a Sig p226 with conversion kits to change calibers. 9mm - 22LR for example.
How does that work as far as the CFO is concerned? If you switch it over are you supposed to contact them to inform them of the change?
Or do you leave as is, if registered as 9mm, only swap to 22LR at the range, and switch back again before heading home?

For the record, I'm not overly concerned about this, just got wondering about what is the "right" way.

its a slide.

The frame (lower) is the registered portion. Swap slide, shoot and enjoy.

Just like ARs and multiple uppers in calibers

Legally, if the 22 is left on all the time, and you sell the 9mm you need to make the changes in barrel length and such.

but if its just a kit accessory, you are good to go

The frame is the register part of the firearm as it almost always carries the serial number. Should be fine to change the calibre to anything you want and not have to inform cfo. Would just chnage to calibre you want to shoot and take to range or bring it all and shoot a few different calibres while there. Just follow transportation law with the firearm.

you are fine , unless you change it for good, than need to phone it in, otherwise , don't matter, you can transport
it eatherway.

If you make a change in the calibre you are supposed to notify CFC of the change
only after 30 days has passed without changing it back.
So a .22 conversion top end that supplements the 9mm does not have to be reported.

I believe you do need to notify the CFO if you acquire a caliber conversion. It becomes and ###X.0002. That is what I have for my DE 44/50. I'll try to find the specific link.

You definitely do NOT need to report anything unless it changes the CLASS of firearm. Even if it does change the class, you only have a certain amount of time to let them know. I thought it was 60 days, but I see someone said 30 here, so now I am second guessing myself. t doesn't really matter. You "just put it on yesterday" anyway.

Miramichi tried to tell me that I have to call and register each of my uppers. I said "Umm..no I don't!" The lady says "Well, you SHOULD, just so we have a record!"

Yeah. Right.

Turns out the supervisor apologized to me for having someone that works there give me false information. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REGISTER CALIBRE CONVERSIONS OR UPPERS.

:)

the #########.0002 means it's the second certificate issued. No reason, as it's exactly the same. They just changed the caliber in their computer, which was unnecessary, and it feeds the bureaucracy to send you a new certificate. The .0001 certificate is invalid and should be destroyed when the .0002 is issued, etc.
