CFSAC 2011 - Early Bird Gets the Worm

LFWA is pretty pumped on shooting still!In 2012 39CBG will have its own competition just for the brigade!The commander was a good CO at my unit and always supported our shooting team.So now he's the brigade CO and doing the same thing for the brigade.
It's absolutely stunning to me that some units STILL think that training soldiers advanced marksmanship is a waste of time as Gunnerlove can attest.

not really dude the percentage of soldiers that think marksmanship is a waste of time likely runs neck and neck with those who voted liberal :p
 
Each Brigade in LFWA including 1 CMBG will be directed to have their own concentration/competition this year for a proper lead-in to the Area concentration/competition. Hopefully units will clue in and do the same at their level. Brigades must support (or force) units (with time, money and ammo) for it to happen.

BTW it will soon be a new training year/fiscal year and units will be getting their training plans approved for next year starting 1 April. If you have not done it already, now is the time to hit up the boss to support a team next summer. Waiting until the spring is too late! Budgets were likely drafted last November.

Concentrations and competitions are great but they are small windows in the training year. Sustainment training must be done frequently throughout the year and only the units are able to do that. A lasting, systemic improvement in capability depends on the training being pushed down to the units. Everything else is just periodic brush ups for a small cadre, every soldier needs better marksmanship training to some degree.

Some units just do not get it but they will when the boss knows the benefit (like 39 CBG comd) and holds the COs accountable for poor performance or no-shows at a concentration.
 
DC13 My CO just info'd me yesterday that not only would he support me going again but this year I get to bring a Tyro along to try out. He gave his blessing for range time, ammo and weapons. Right from his mouth at our CO's hour. Cause you know while I had him there I was going to ask for more support than I got last year. His words "that he would support anything I needed within reason to get myself and another to NSCC and CFSAC." Nice to have a CO that gets it!!

Good news! For every senior going back there needs to be another tyro. Your CO has time in the Legion, the Airborne, and the Patricias. Good man, he knows the value of the marksman.
 
Glad to hear that the season is beginning to shape up out there. We in the ORA are still waiting for any news about the course of fire, etc, etc. All we know is that it's gonna be busy no matter what format is chosen! :D
 
I'm glad people are looking into it.

Our unit's been running ranges and doing some shoots with selecting who goes to the SAC in mind. Definitely hoping to have more black-hatters there this year.

We even moved the wedding from this summer to this month....
 
While it is nice to have proper butts, it is still possible to practice without them, and with fixed targets. A stop watch and a whistle aren't the same as targets controlled by the butts, but practice is still possible.
 
I feel that steel targets are the next best choice for practice as they offer instant feed back to the shooter.

To be honest for some matches they are my first choice.
 
KC and I use gongs when we practice sitting rapids, Match 8 etc. You're right - instant feedback. Touch up the paint periodically, you can have a look, make sure your group is nicely centered. After practicing until getting into position and firing becomes smooth, I use an RUReady timer to check my use of the available time.
