Hi there, first post here -> I've been lurking for a few months reading up on stuff and avoiding asking any overly newbie questions hehe.

I'm in Ottawa and am looking to take the CFSC/CRFSC to get my PAL/RPAL and was wondering if anyone had any info as to when the soonest course is.

I was checking out http://ww w.firearmstraining.ca and even sent the instructor there 2 emails about the course on May 24/25 but no answer :(

Anyway, if anyone has any info I'd love to hear it, and I hope to be able to join the CGN community here in style once I do get my licenses :D

I've had problems getting emails from a few people lately (especially Sympatico customers it seems). I don't know if it's their filtering programs not liking the FirearmsTraining part of my address or some other issue. If you're not getting a response to an email you've sent me within a couple of days, send me a PM here (not that I'm here every day).

FYI, there are a couple of things to watch out for when you're shopping for an instructor (sorry, this turns into a bit of a rant):
- The CFSC in Ontario is mandated to be 10 hours of instruction excluding lunches and breaks, while the CRFSC is a mandatory add-on of 6 hours. If someone is offering you a course in fewer hours they're shortchanging you and violating the rules as established by the Firearms Safety Education Service of Ontario.
- The written exams are closed-book tests so an instructor who gives open book tests is cheating on your behalf.
- If you do the practical test without ever touching a gun lock to show safe storage or putting a handgun in a case, the instructor is skipping parts of the test.
- Students are supposed to show the examiner how they do the requested tasks, NOT tell the examiner how they would theoretically do the tasks. It's kind of hard to point a firearm in an unsafe direction, accidentally put a finger on the trigger, etc if you're only talking about what you would do without actually handling the firearms (nobody says how they would probably break safety rules in these "oral" tests). It's kind of like me telling Jessica Alba how I would drive her wild with sensual delights - it's a whole another thing to actually show her!

The course tests are supposed to be exactly the same word-for-word script in every province. In Ontario, if you come across an instructor who is violating the rules let the professional standards folks at www.fseso.org know about it, please.
