Once again thank you to Mad Dog for stickying this thread.
Alrighty folks, lets get things settled. The Weekend of June 6th and 7th is the 'actual' CGN gopher shoot. I will arrive sometime on Friday. The only thing that may impede the Weekend is the weather. We're taking a gamble schedualing things that early. Rain could come at any time that early in the season but it's our best bet for good shooting. Obvioulsy any earlier compounds the risk plus cold temperatures. The reason I'm saying this is many of you might be wondering why not do it later. The answer is grass. If it gets too high, you can't see anything. Later still and the critters go below ground. Mid May through to mid June is generally what I've found to be the best gopher shooting weather. The location is North of Tompkins, Saskatchewan.
Now we're officialy at 4 months as of this Weekend. That should give everyone who wants to attend plenty of time to book time off work and get together what they will need. C2K say's anybody wanting to spend extra time on the farm is welcome to do so provided they use respect. That's simple folks, treat their land better than you would treat your own. Our hosts last year were kind enough to mow an area to set up camp and provide a few other amenities for our use. They welcomed us, but this is still private land and should be treated as such. We ask that you pack out what you bring in. There are no real garbage facilities, so be prepared to haul your trash out. Also come prepared to be self sufficiant. Don't count on having electricity or running water if your bringing an RV. There is a toilet facility but that's where the luxury ends. And if you use it after me that's your problem.
Last year was an experiance. We had hot weather, nasty mosquito's and driving rain that came down sideways. Howling winds, thunder and lightning to boot. Bring the proper clothing to stay comfortable. Bring however much food you figure you'll need plus whatever you need to prepare it. The firepit has a halfgrill, (At least it did last year) so food can be cooked on it if need be. There is plenty of room for tents and RV's, plus parking. I'm not big on rules, but it's best to have a few.
1.) Let's keep all firearms unloaded in the camp. When returning, unload and open up before you get in.
2.) Everyone needs to know where everyone else is. Don't wander downrange when people are firing. It's common sense, but there are a few hills that may block others from seeing you.
3.) Do not fire towards the farm, camp, livestock or equipment. There's alot of it around.
4.) If you bring pets, keep them under control. If you bring children, keep them on a leash, or somthing like that.
5.) Tread lightly. Don't tear up fields and if possible, walk don't drive. You'll get more shooting in that way anyways.
6.) Centerfire rifles were permited last year but the land owner requested they weren't used around the farm.
7.) What the landowners say rules.
Now if anyone has any suggestions we're open to hear them. Post them here and we can all work together to put this on. There is no fee to attend, I do however request everyone bring one thing, firewood. If everyone who attends stops at a Saskatchewan store and picks up a cord of firewood, we'll all have enough to enjoy a good firepit. I was told you cannot bring firewood from other Provinces in so it's best to buy a cord or two on your way in.
I am going to include a list of items you'll want to bring. If anyone thinks of anything else let me know and I'll add them to the list. Not everything is mandatory, but I've found it's nice to have.
*Shelter
*Sleeping bags, cot's etc.
*Enough water for both drinking/cooking and washing to last the duration of your stay
*Food
*Cooking/eating utensils
*Warm weather clothing
*Cold weather clothing
*Rain gear
*Good footwear
*Firearms
*Gun cases
*Plenty of ammunition
*Cleaning and maintanence gear for your guns
*Binoculars
*Folding chairs
*Cooler
*Lime slices. (Just for you Tripalm!
)
The Evenings are great to have a few beers around the fire. I'm looking foward to seeing many new faces. Watch for the signs and as we get closer to the date I'll PM anyone who is coming a map to the farm. If you have any questions, concerns or ideas post up.
One other thing I should mention. Awhile back someone suggested a pot luck supper. Anyone interested is required to bring one item to share with everyone. We can post a list of what we need and who's bringing what. That is if the majority of folks are willing to do that. If so, let us know and I'm calling the potatoe salad.
So from here on out, I'll be relying on the poll at the top of this page to tell me who's coming. If you say your coming but things change, please let me know in advance. I suppose I should also mention that depending on the amount of interest recieved, we might have to put a limit on how many are allowed. I'll leave that part up to Captain2K's discretion. But for now I'll say first come first serve. Thanks all for the interest and stay tuned to this thread for any changes or developments. Thanks again.
