I came to a realization today that I know more about what I like in a chainsaw than I do in a rifle. Recently purchased both and found that my saw decision was a better one ( I own six saws). My rifle ? I'm already pissed off with my caliber choice and the way it's shooting. At least with a chainsaw you can't blame the monkey behind the throttle.. well, I guess you can but the results are more instant.
My only sounding board for guns is this forum and the salespeople in retail stores. You can research rifles until you are blue in the face and still make a crappy choice, mostly because it's just an opinion.
Currently I have a Tikka 223, Howa HS Precision 3006, CZ 455 .22, Brno ZKK 601 243.
Guess which one pisses me off.
Not that I'm really into saws, because I live in South Sask with hardly any trees, but I managed to collect a few.... I hate heavy saws and I hate recoil, but I managed to find a balance. I first shot a 270, then a 3030, then a 3006, then a 300 win mag and I just learned that the recoil made me flinch and my accuracy went to garbage. My compromise was getting a Tikka T3 Hunter LH in .260 rem. It kills just as good as the I'm 270 ever did, with 1/4 the recoil and its accurate as hell. In the 2 years ive owned it, ita dropped 2 white tail bucks, a big mulie buck, an antelope and an elk, none of which went very far (if at all) after being hit.
And for saws.... I retired the old John deere and has a ms170, echo 4400 and husqy 445, but for the minimal cutting I have here, they work and theyre light!
