Anyone have any feedback on challenger shells? I bought a case the other day. I was shooting trap and out of the first 50 about 13 of the primers fell out of the brass when the hull ejected. I shoot a semi auto and I was a little worried the spent primer would fall into the reciever.

I have fired several thousand of them and just picked up 2 more flats today. No problems in my O/U's or in my A400. Also use them in my 870 Wingmaster for busting crows and bunnies, no problem.

Just finished three flats of their target loads. Good quality ammo with no malfunctions. Nothing particularly special vs. other ammo, but seems to be the cleanest I've managed to find. I've never had a qc problem or anything like you describe.

They use Cheddite primers (and hulls). The primers are prone to being pierced, particularly in some O/U's . Good ammo otherwise, and made in Canada to boot.

I've shot tens of thousands of Challenger shells and can't recall the primers falling out. Challenger reliability and performance is on par with other ammunition. My only objection to them is cold weather performance and they sometimes sound odd in extremely cold conditions.

Ya, I recently started using them, I shot about a thousand with no issue.
The first 2 boxes had the primers falling out. Shot another 50 on Sunday without a single issue. I did send an email to challenger, they replied right away asking for my number to discuss. I gave them my number and haven't heard anything since

Must be 10 plus years ago or so there was a problem with some batches that had UK hull primer pocket dimensions and when North Americia dimension cheddite primers were installed this would happen but that was like I say many many years ago and limited to a few batches
Maybe it is happening again
Cheers

Cabelas just increased their price on this birdshot from $7.49 to $8.90.
I might be turning to Score from WSS for my low cost shell needs.
