Challenger Classic Double 2 1/2 shot shells

Finally got time to pattern some short shells. Using gamebore regal and rst lite and challenger shells in the same gun husqvarna hammergun. Game bore regal was much heavier recoil followed by the challengers and lastly the rst lite. Game bore also patterned tighter than the rst. Challengers had the tightest pattern but they were 7.5 shot not 6s like the others. Ill be using the gamebore loads for turkey

Good information. Thanks for sharing.

Very helpful, thanks!

Most interesting takeaway was that the slightly more open choke provided tighter patterns with both gamebore and rst lite #6 shot. Shooting at 25 yards the roughly mod fixed choke beat the 1oz #6 2.75" remington load fired thru a carlsons turkey choke in my beretta a400.

Also the gamebore felt wad punched thru the target at 25 yards and they give off a distinct not so pleasant smell i was told. Targets were 11"x17" turkey print with a ringed target centered on the neck. Considering these 2.5" loads are not turkey loads and fired thru old standard fixed chokes id be confident taking 35 yard shots on a turkey

The challenger 2.5" and my reloaded rolled shells provided the densest patterns but are not legal for turkey as they were loaded with #7.5 shot

I find the same results....the Gamebore does have more of a kick than RST....Chris says the Gamebore are fine on the old doubles so I trust him but Im not shooting my foot LOL.

I don’t have it handy but IIRC the Gamebore develop noticeably higher pressure than the RST Lite. Which is kinda an equivalent load. It’s at least 500 psi and maybe up to 1000 psi higher in a 12 gauge. Gamebore are still fine for vintage guns but that extra pressure developed may be a clue to the greater felt recoil most of us experience with Gamebore to RST.
