Challenger shot shells opinions please.

So I had a chance to run a box of handicap loads through my a400 they didn't work any better than the 1 oz loads. Both would cycle the action but seems the empty hull gets hung up in the ejection port some how. Funny thing. The cartridges have lots of bang in them. The other semi I had ran them, no stoppages what so ever.

You might want to check your extractor/ejector claw. If it's damaged or not gripping the case rim firmly, it may be "losing" the hull before it clears the ejection port. I've found the Challenger rim diameter/thickness to be slightly smaller than Remington, as an example.
The one A400 I've shot Challengers out of threw the empties at least 10 feet. Those were 1 oz light loads too.

I agree it does sound like an extractor/ejector issue particularly if it's a 3" gun. What I've seen in the 3-1/2" A400 with light loads is the second shell not being picked up or the bolt not locking open on the last shell.

Yup.

It's your gun.

I shoot challenger for 3gun competitions in my 1301 (A400 based) and it has NEVER missed a beat. 100's of rounds as fast as I can pull the trigger.

I've never had a problem with my Beretta out but heard about the problem in Browning's...My buddy bought a Browning and when he researched it he found that if he replaced a part (slightly shorter lower firing pin I think) he would have no issues. He did it and he's never pierced a primer...Browning 725

So I contacted stogger about my trouble with the a400 and challenger shells. They didn't have much insight on the whole thing. Only said it might be to do with the quality of the shells. I don't for a second believe that. They did also say to send the gun in, if I felt something was not right and they would check it out.

I'm not sure if you have tried this already, but give it a good cleaning then run box of 3.5" through it. Some heavy loads will 'break the springs' in a bit. I did this on my A400 when it was new and not feeding Challengers. After that box of 3.5" I haven't had an issue.

Thanks,
Cal.

I've never run any heavy shells through it yet. I will give that a go. Nothing to loose.
Thanks
