Challenging the CORE exam?

I'm planning to challenge the CORE exam and I bought the CORE book from a local shop.
Does a guy really need to read that entire book to pass the exam? It's almost 350 pages.
Are there certain parts of the book that should be focused on more than others?

At the end of each chapter there is a small quiz, just read through each section to find the answers.. If you have a PAL, skip the firearms stuff as you will be exempt from the firearms practical.
Pay special attention to the birds, and animal identification.
Do all the chapter quizzes and you will do fine.
 
I wouldn't recommend doing this. The exam is very though and yes, you have to expect almost everything. I did the core 2 years ago just for fun and it was way tougher than the PAL and RPAL. ID'ing those birds is very hard when you didn't grow up in the bush or are very well used to them.
 
I challenged the core, and know of quite a few people who did... All of us score well into the high 90's on it.. Open book study and answer the questions at the end of each chapter and you will do great. Really study hard on those birds, and the animal habitat parts though for sure...
 
I figured the exam would deal mostly with species identification, and as long as I do a bit of studying I think I'll do alright on that part. I just couldn't believe the size of the book and all the other information in it when I flipped through it last night.
I'll do as you suggested with the quizzes and challenge the exam.
I doubt I'll ever go hunting (with the exception of maybe the odd grouse at my uncle's cabin,) but my stubborn-ass uncle said he'll only get his PAL if I get my hunting license.

I'm in the lower mainland. Won't be making it to the island any time soon and will probably never go hunting. I just want my uncle to get his PAL and he says he'll only get it if I get my hunting license.

just read though the book a couple of times, at the end of each chapter there is a supplemental section for extra information, so the book is bigger than what it seems. I challenged the test and it was easier than I thought it would be.
