...Newbie here with newbie questions...

I have a buddy who owns an Arisaka. I've found a chamber adapter for it that will allow 7.62x39...
Facts:
-Sporterized Arisaka but NICE. Good clean rifle. Type 99, mum (lotus?) very clear/well defined
-Chamber Adapter only. Up to us to fix mag to feed...
-Rifle isn't permanantly "altered" by us (already sporterized) and adapter is removable
Questions:
i) Lousy accuracy aside, what is the worst-case scenario? I can imagine the damage caused by trying to fire to large a round in a smaller bore. But 7.7mm to 7.62...will it be too sloppy? Dangerous?
ii) I think it would be nice just to go to the pits with it (we have 50, 75,100yds mapped nicely) and, be able to afford to hear it go BANG. Are we nuts?
iii) Anyone done it? Know of one?

...7.7 is crazy expensive, 7.62x39 is so not...

7.62X39 is .311" as is the 7.7 Jap. Both rifles have the same size bore. 7.62X39 is not .308". 7.7 Jap, 303 Brit, 7.62X39, and 7.62X54R all have .311" bores, or handy their abouts.
