Hey all,
I have been reading into getting a chamber adapter to mod a .308 to accept 7.62x39 ammo. (It was suggested by someone on another thread as a cheap way to get into shooting 7.62x39 in a bolt action). My question is in a modern .308 (non military barrel) would you have any problems running the slightly larger 7.62x39 bullet thru it? And second would the extractor (push fed) reliably engage the rim of the case as the dimensions are a bit smaller?

Very unlikely to feed, I would not want to run a .311" bullet down a .308" bore without working up the load, to do so would be foolish.

If you want a cheap bolt action 7.62x39 I'd look for a Norinco.

This is a very bad idea with too many wrongs to even start listing. 30 Carbine in 308 with the correct adapter no problem........7.62X39 in 308.......many problems, do not attempt unless your 308 has the correct leade for 311 bullets, which it won't!!!!!
7.62X39 in a 303 Brit with the correct adapter is doable............

chamber adapter for high pressure rounds require considerable wall thickness to avoid sticking in the chamber due to expansion. Even the 7.62x25 will get stuck eventually

These are all pretty much the same concerns I had which is why I asked. I have been waiting patiently for Marstar to get more norinco jw-103 or for someone to offer a version that isn't $800. Just seem a bit much for a 100m gun

So if a .311 bullet is unsafe to fire thru a .308 barrel then help me understand how the savage 10 scout chambered in 7.62x39 uses a .308 barrel. Am I missing something in how they are measuring the barrel or the types of ammo that is safe to use in the rifle or is the .002 of an inch difference within tolerance? Any help understanding this would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm with you here. ;) Think the 7.62 Mini 14 was made in both bore diameters.
