What do we thing folks?

Interesting choice for the .223 and Federal Fusion in 62gr.

I like that load for small deer so maybe hard enough for fur.

Scrummy

For coyotes the faster .22 centerfires, 223-220 Swift with either a very soft or tough bullet works good although hitting bone can be hard on pelts. Foxes and bobcats can be torn up with the fast .22's and bullet choice can be critical. Among my friends who target them the .17's and .204's are pretty popular, the .22 Hornet and .222 Remington have their followers too.
I'm sort of fond of the .17hmr and .22 WMR for some applications particularly if hides are important to you. My .223 with 55 grain Hornady SP item #2266 or the 60 grain HP/SP get most of my coyote hunting.

My favorite has been a 40 gr vmax out of my 222 but I have found it to be quite capable out of my other varmint guns. Just keep it inside the chest cavity and off the shoulder blade and it's one hole in no hole out and one very dead coyote.

I was thinking the same thing. My father harvested Furs every winter... He used a 22 - 250 for coyotes at distance. But he used a 22 long rifle for everything else. Less damage

My 222 likes the 50 grain V max and it seems to be fur friendly on the few it has connected with. I have also used deer rifles and regular deer bullets with good success, they tend to not vaporize or detonate inside the animal, they usually exit but with a hole that is only slightly larger than caliber of the bullet and are easily sewn up. 243 with 87 V max is a bit hard on coyotes and especially fox, so this winter I am going to try the 58 grain V max and see if that is any better

I used the .17 Rem to good effect on raccoons and beavers with 25 gr Hornady HP's. A pin hole in..Nothin' out. Easy cartridge to tailor loads for from mid-speed
brain pokers on deer sized critters to el explodo speeds on varmints. No scope blurring at the shot is a big bonus. ;)
