You never know what you will find in the bush when hunting and I come up with scenarios, maybe many of you have seen this before but I wonder what should I do?

Scenario 1. You come across wolves taking down a legal deer. Would you or could you legally shoot the wolves and then finish off the deer for your self? Would it be okay to harvest after wolves got their teeth into it?

Scenario 2.
You come across two legal big bull elks or bucks going head to head. Let em finish.. Could you tell the winner ? I would guess shooting the loser would be the ethical thing to do... Assuming he still has antlers around to prove he was legal.

Maybe i'm just getting excited too much about the up coming season!

Yup. your excited.
No, you can not shoot wolves that are eating a deer, that is what wolves do.
Same with the elk.
Bring a camera, get lots of pictures of the situations for us, and for yourself. That is what the woods are all about.

Good luck in the upcoming season!

many farmers around here will tell you the ethical thing to do is finish off all the wolves , wait 20 minutes for any of their buddies to show up , finish them off , then if you have any ammo left go back to deer hunting .

in case anyone has missed what i'm trying to get at ...... we have a pretty big wolf overpopulation around here .

I agree with the not killing wolves while they take a deer, nature at its finest. On the elk though, if in season, got the proper or more points, I have a tag and my 30-06 with me, one of those elk is dying by my hands and filling my freezer. The one I don't shoot should consider itself the winner, lol

You've got to be kidding ? Get a shot at a wolf and you wanna watch the firefight first ? Reality says you're gonna lose all.

Depends how long these elk have been fighting. If your catching them at the tail end of a long drawen out fight they would be so heated up the meat would suck big time.

Shoot any wolf on site anytime (out here anyway). The deer wouldn't likely be worth eating after the adrenilan rush though.

In either case the meat would be crappy and not even fit for dog food. If you are that hard up for meat start tagging road-kill.

Boy now thats ruff. Tagging road kill that sounds like what a hillbilly would do.
As far as seeing an animal taken down by wolves (bears) I'd leave that alone.
Big animal fights in the bush that I had seen not interested at all no matter
the trophy.Having beat up meat has a bad taste for sure I'd stay away from that.
Now if the regs say no limit on the wolves and I need some carpet in the front
room I think I'll crack a few shots down wind of them and bag me a few for sure.

Unlikely scenerios. If I was still living up north, I'd say shoot as many wolves as possible but mostly because the moose were hurting and the caribou in the area were on the verge of extinction. Some could likely be saved I don't think I'd be too interested in butchering a deer that had been chewed on by wolves. As far as elk goes, not always good to wait. Pick one and get a clean and careful shot. They aren't crazy smart in full rut but in most crown land areas with an open season, they can get pretty elusive and spooky.

Kill all the wolves you can get shots on and then the deer, if it's a trophy cape it and get it mounted and give the meat to someone you don't particularly like. The same with the elk, kill the biggest and if it's a good one get it mounted and give all but the tenderloins to someone who isn't your best friend. Did I mention to kill all the wolves you can?

When I saw all those on here who wouldn't shoot the wolves, I had to check to see that I hadn't accidently got onto the Sierra Club's websight!
Doug and I are singing from the same hymn book, but if he has read the book I gave him, he will know this.

I'd shoot as many wolves as I had tags for. As many coyotes as I could. I have watched to bucks fight. I shot the one with the best horns however now years later I regret not taking that old Grey in the face buck instead. His rack was small and odd but he was a massive bodied deer. I now believe he was the true trophy

I stand firmly in this camp as well. I have seen how wolves work many times. Any wolf I encounter better have his best legs under him!! lol
Cheers, Dave.
