Chance to trade X-Bolt SS for Model 70 SG,...what would you do??

I figured the Model 70 would win this debate by a land slide, lol. The only thing that has me on the fence is I bought the X-Bolt to be used as a ruff use gun for rain storms and to use in the canoe and atv. (I have always had guns that I treat like a baby and try not to beat them around, keep them dry, no scratches, no rust, etc.)
But I'm kinda old school, wool pants, red n black checkered wool jacket, green Acton trail boots kinda hunter and the black synthetic stainless steel rifle just doesn't seem to feel right, lol.
I am waiting for the guy to send some more pics of the SG and hopefully my mind will be made up.
I always did carry nice rifles and never banged them up so this one should be no different.

Even if the rough use gun is your intention, i would just look at it in terms of availability. You can find X-bolts in every gun store across the country, so you can always find another one for your rough use gun. How often do you see the supergrades in canadian tire or on sale at cabelas?

Seems like a great deal, but I'd want to know if there were any issues with the M70 to warrant such a trade.

I hear ya SuperCub. Like the old saying goes "if it seems to good to be true, it usually is." I'm a bit skeptical about this deal,.. and I may pass it up. My gut is telling me to take the X-Bolt to the gun shop and trade it in on a new Super Grade M70,....or just keep the x-bolt for my intended use of it as a "tool" and add a Super Grade to my collection when I can afford to.

Holly frig,..this rifle addiction is getting out of hand. Has anybody got a number for "Gunaholics Anonymous"?...

I'd wouldn't pass it up, but I would check into the M70 a bit further to see if there are any issues before trading.

OK guys,.. here's one for ya. I may have a chance to trade my Stainless Stalker X-Bolt 30.06 for a Model 70 Super Grade 270. My X-Bolt is mint 14 rounds through it,..and I think the Model 70 is mint also with low round count as well,....What should I do?

I think they are both fine rifles, reliable and accurate. Unless I'm mistaken they are made at the same Miroku plant. The SG has that classic hunting rifle look. Its only a couple of hundred dollars more expensive than the X Bolt to buy new. In 270 Win the SG harkens back to Jack O'Conner. The X Bolt SS may provide more peace of mind when being used in wet weather conditions. In 30-06 Sprg it is, quite possibly, the most versatile caliber out there. I like rifles with a stainless barrel/action and synthetic stock but walnut and blued steel is timeless. Its a hard choice, I'd want them both in my safe.

I shoot an Xbolt stainless stalker in .223, its my coyote gun and its a great shooter. I like it for its low bolt throw and its detach mag. I also have a Win Model 70 Extreme Weather and its a nicer rifle, better stock but doesn't shoot as well as my X-Bolt. Old men seem to really..really like Winchesters..must bring them back to their youth or something and you may get a biased opinion lol ;). For myself Id go for the rifle that shoots the best groups in all weather conditions.

Cheers!!

Here are a couple pics of the wood on the SG,....looks pretty nice. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions,..lol

I haven't made the trade yet SuperCub,....these are just a couple pics that the guy sent to me. I thought I would post them to see what you guys thought. I haven't seen to many Super Grades, other than in internet pics, and this one looks like it has about the prettiest wood that you will see on one. Whats your thoughts?
