Chandler XM-3

If functionality at the lowest possible price were all that mattered everyone would be shooting savages with custom tubes.

Why buy a nightforce when a sightron will get the job done? Why buy a drillings, baikal makes a double rifle that will take game? Why buy a rem 700 when a stevens 200 will do the same thing for less?

d:h:

You're not getting it. $9000 for something that could be put together for 1/3 the price.

Would you buy a Baikal based "custom" double rifle for $5000? What if Craig Boddington Endorsed it?

I get it, I just try not to criticize other peoples choices anymore. I see lots of rifles with under 2500$ worth of parts being sold in the EE with captions like "over 5000$ invested" To me that's too much. Its all relative.

They are not just offering the gun. The "weapon system" includes:

"
Complete System List

Wrench, 5/64, Turret Caps
Socket, 3/8 drive, T-30 (Guard Bolts)
Socket, 3/8 drive, ½ head, Scope Rings
Complete System Fitted Inside Hardigg Storm Case
"

I'm not going to price all those parts, but a few stand out as useful parts and significant cost items:
Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50 Day Optic Sight w/ Zero Stop Feature
Nightforce .885 Ultra Light Scope Rings
Harris BRM-S Bipod w/ Pod-Loc
Seekonk Wrench, Torque, 3/8 drive, 68/in lbs.
Complete System Fitted Inside Hardigg Storm Case

Those alone are getting near 3000 retail. Sling, cheekpiece, Dewey stuff etc probably puts the useful accessories north of 3K. Unless you find your "put together" rifle in a crackerjack box, you wont get the same thing for 1/3 of the $8650 Delta-marine Security is asking.

Still an expensive rifle, but not nearly the ripoff you make it out to be. If it is, as claimed in the IBA literature guaranteed to shoot factory ammo (Black Hills 175g) sub MOA at 1000 yards, then I can see a market for it.

Every XM3 is capable of shooting sub-minute of angle (three shot groups) at 1000 yard. These days, that may not seem exceptional, but the XM3 has only an 18 1⁄2-inch long barrel and wears a Sure Fire© sound suppressor.
“Wait a minute,” you say. “Only an 18 1⁄2-inch barrel – and it shoots sub-minute at 1000 yards?” That is correct. Now how could that be?
We have been at this game for many years, decades, in fact, so we never have to start from scratch, but it was not a matter of getting one rifle to shoot to that sub-minute standard. Every rifle we produced had to perform that well (repeatability), and they had to retain that accuracy through every test we could contrive. Getting the XM3 to shoot as it does required intense testing, modifying, and re-testing by many different shooters for many months.

To paraphrase Donald Sutherland in The Dirty Dozen: "Very pretty.....but can they fight?"

Pick up any gun magazine these days and chances are there is an article on someone's custom rifle and it's abilities. Just because someone wrote something is great, I still like to hear from someone who has first-hand experience with it. I have known Gadget for 20 years and if he were to tell me the Acme Supergun was a good piece of equipment, I would tend to believe it.

There are good rifle builders out there, but far more who believe they are good rifle builders. That goes for Canada and the US. I have owned two PGW Timberwolf rifles and thought they were very well built rifles, I never had the opportunity to test them under harsh conditions, but believed them to be well built. Recently I have heard from a couple friends inside the CF and out that the Timberwolf rifles are not holding up as well as the CF would have liked. No one has confirmed if it is a design issue or a maintenance issue, but looking at the C3's/C3-A1's after years of peace time use, I would tend to think the issue is one of proper maintenance.

That being said, is a PGW cheaper? I don't think so when you start to add up the extras like scope, rings, case, cleaning equipment, and so on. The XM-3 might even come out a bit cheaper.

I did not start this thread to say "the Chandler rifle is the best rifle in universe and beyond", I was just mentioning that they are available in Canada. Some people like Chev, some people like Ford, rifles are the same way. AI builds a great rifle (expensive, but great) that is used all around the world, but I don't like the thumb-hole stock. Everyone should do their own research and purchase what works best for them. Just my 2 cents

My apologies.... when I first referenced Delta's website I must have mis-read.

If the price shown does in fact include all items listed in the "deployment" package then you are correct, it is far from a bad deal.
And yes you would probably be hard pressed to do better with anybody else.

My bad.
