Switching bolt body changes trigger pull?

I have a sporterized m96 mauser in 6.5x55 swede, One bolt body has a crudely bent handle that doesn’t allow much scope clearance, the other is nicely done, and would allow me to use low scope rings.

When I keep the internals of the bolt that came with the rifle into the nicely bent low profile bolt body, the trigger will not pull, and the rifle will not fire.

Im just wondering what changes when the bolt body is changed, headspace is not affected as I have measured headspace and both pass the gauges, but the crudely bent bolt will fire, with nice trigger pull, whereas the other one locks up completely.

Im using the stock 2 stage military trigger.

Tough question to answer without seeing it in person. Sounds like it might not be rotating far enough for the bolt to close properly.

Is the rear of the bolt being held back by the sear when you close the bolt????

It really sounds like your bolt is only rotating about 60 degrees, rather than 90 degrees.

The front of the sear has a projection that needs to rotate up into a cut on the bottom of the bolt. Sounds as if this bolt cut is not lining up with the sear extension.
Sometimes, when a bolt is altered for scope mounting, it is necessary to make a clearance cut in the right side of the receiver tang to clear the root of the bolt handle.
As mentionned above, check and see if the bolt is rotating all the way.

bolt is rotating completely, the triangular cut that the sear seats into looks nearly identical

when the nicely bent bolt (the one that wont fire) is used, you can pull the trigger as hard as you want and nothing wil lhappen, perhaps the sere just wont pull out of that cutout in that bolt body?

------

re read posts above, it doesnt matter if the cuts look identical, they may not be linging up.... im going to remove the trigger, rotate the bolt bodies in the receiever and look

pull the trigger while rotating the bolt, then take it out of the stock and try it doing the same thing. could you post pics of the bolts side by side?

Take to a qualified person familiar with M98 alterations... let him diagnose it and recommend a fix... so much easier to do 'in person'.

So in haste I assumed the bolt was rotating, I looked closer and sure enough, the rear tang needed a clearance cut. I filed away a bit of material on the bolt handle and it now clears nicely! I think I reassembled ther bolt incorrectly as the safety isn't working, but ill double check the shroud later
