Changing an SR22 stock

I picked up an SR22 and decided I hate it.

If I strip it down , will it fit in a standard 10-22 stock ?...or is the barrel a weird taper ?

I see lots of factory 10-22 stocks for sale in the EE

Stripped down it will fit with minor adjustments to the barrel channel. Or pick up a stock and stock 10/22 barrel and you are set.

It's a heavier profile barrel than the stock sporters, you are correct. You can hog out the barrel channel easy enough using a dowel and some sandpaper.

you can probably get $250 for the chassis system by itself ... right there will get you a boyds replacement stock and some ammo.
