I recently acquired a Webley mk1 still in .455, the frame is in excellent condition but the rifling appears to be very weak, possibly from a previous owner shooting jacketed bullets. A friend suggested finding a replacement barrel, I'm fairly new to antiques but I believe if a mkiv or mkV barrel would fit I could source one for less money. Has anyone tried this before, or have information they could share with me? If so I'd live to hear it, thank you.

Sourcing parts for those old girls is tough to almost impossible at the best of times. If you can find them in good condition buy them if you need them.

I don't know what the difference is between the MkIV and MkV is to the MkI. When you find the parts they usually include the cylinder assembly. Finding diagrams isn't difficult, finding drawings with actual measurements is very difficult.

It was not difficult to fit a MkVI barrel to my MkII frame, it now shoots much better and is stronger to boot. Needed the cylinder and some other bits from the MkVI in addition to the barrel.

The rifling in these revolvers are normally very shallow. They use a hollow base bullet in them, which expands into the shallow grooves for better accuracy.

That is good to know! A member sent me a bunch of great information on webleys. According to the books it's only compatible with mk1* and mk2.
Very interested in how you did it headDamage. If you feel like sharing.

I had a damaged Mk VI and the barrel fit right on and locked up well without the cylinder on the Mk II. There is a nose/nub at the center of the ejection star that needs a small recess in the recoil shield of the MkII, dremel works for this. I also needed a Mk VI cylinder stop due to the fact the Mk II one was too short to long to work with the larger Mk VI cylinder. I did not modify the Mk II frame to accommodate the Mk VI cylinder removal mechanism. I can still put my Mk II barrel and cylinder on the Mk II frame but need to switch the cylinder stop as well when doing this.
