The Walther PDP accepts Glock style sights so replacing the rear was super easy. I was hoping the front would be just as easy . Unfortunately there is a spacer/sleeve dust cover impeding my access to the hex screw hold the front sight. My question to all you Walther experts is, how do I move this spacer. Is it held in place by friction? Do you have to squeeze the small tabs.

I googled it and it shows contradicting information. Prior to attempting any technique's gleaned on the internet I was hoping a fellow CGNr could give me some actual information on the way proper way to do it.

Here is a picture I borrowed from the internet as mine could not accurately capture the details.PDP sleeve.jpg

Thanks in advance everyone.

Does the spacer not slide to the rear to provide access to the screw?

Yes its suppose to move towards the rear of the slide to expose the front sight screw but it is held quite firmly into place. I am not sure if its just a friction hold or if those tabs need to be depressed to release it. Either way I can not seem to get it to budge. There is probably an easy trick that I am missing. I am probably over analyzing it.

This thread over on the Walther forums seems to explain it - looks like the same image you borrowed as well.

I finally was able to move it. I was a little hesitant at first. I used the dowel method with a small sharpie cap attached as not to mar the finish as they described in the other forum. I inserted it into the guide rod hole and applied a few tap's from a mallet and it broke free. Problem solved. My initial concern were the 2 openings. I thought that they were tabs.

Like I thought, I over analyzed it rather than just doing it.

Sometimes I forget that guns are tools that are meant to be used and sometimes slightly abused.

The below photo was borrowed from the Walther forum to explain the sharpie method.
