Changing handguards on a Norc M4

I bought a Norinco CQ556 and picked up a NcStar quadrail from Milarm in Edm. The 'new' fellow instructed me to install it with the "proper orientation", not the sideways method that others are doing. In being new to the black rifle game, my 14 year old son and I tried his way. He even went so far as to indicate that the allen head screws were not necessary as due to a manufacturing error they hit the gas tube. No way in hel[ this was going together. We turned it 'sideways' and lo and behold there was a manufactured gap for the gas tube. Second try at installation total time 3 min (not including screws). Did need two people to install though. One to pull on the locking ring, one to install the rail grip. Nice and tight, good finish. Can send pics if you want.

I put a set of MOE hanguards on my Norc and the lower guard is a very tight fit to the front ferrule. You might need to remove a little thickness from the guards curved lip. I didn't .. just forced it on but it was very tight. Don't know if this affected accuracy or not as it was unfired. The upper guard fit fine.
Well finally got it to fit, after I shaved off the bumps on the parts that slipped into the forward ring and rounded the edges, it went further in but was completly stopped just a few millimetres from flush. Took a close look and found that on the forward edge of the upper handguard there are two "posts" that come down that the lower handguard slides into. Except there was not enough room to for the lower handguard to slide forward without butting up against these posts. I radiused the edges of the posts and slightly widened the slots on the lower hand the post slide into to. With some gently tapping with a rubber mallet it went together. I still really hate that slipring in the rear though, Stoner must have thought that gun plumbers had 3 arms!
