Changing Loads?

I'll use multiple loads in the same rifle while culling; simply because it's the best or maybe only way to compress a lifetime or two of on-game experience into a week. Or maybe a day, depending on whose lifetime. Or which day come to think of it.

Preconceived notions, rationalization, examples of one, tradition, nostalgia, advertising hype or wishful thinking can't stand up to 50 before lunch. It goes a long ways toward picking the one load per gun.

I've got 4 loads prepared for the .257 Weatherby, 3 of which shoot to the same POI out to 500. The fourth will require a pre determined zero change. Not a huge deal if you are in that mindset. Now, for the paperwork to come through in time.

Some people can't even use a variable scope because they can't keep track of what power it's left on. Multiple loads aren't for them.

I shoot a lot just for fun. So in doing I shoot many diffrent bullets, powders, loads. I don't have a dedicated hunting rifle so every fall/hunt I load up say 20 rounds with a quality bullet and a well suited powder to .cal and go sight my rifle in. As its usually close it only takes a few round to do so and ill shoot a couple more at different distances to verify and im good to go for hunting season.

I have several 243's and lots of different loads. Target loads, Varmint loads, and Hunting loads. All these loads were worked up using one rifle but shoot acceptably well in the others. The hunting loads are nickel, varmint loads are hollowpoint, and the 50 round boxes with the carrying handles are for the range. Even the wife knows what bullets to leave the house with.
All my other rifles are one load for each calibre. Sometimes I cringe when I'm punching holes in paper with Barnes TSX

Seein' as how I load all my rifles with a specific hardcast load that works as both a hunting & target round, I don't change loads whilst out huntin' or plinkin'. Of course, I'll use up some powders and boolits of various weights, hardness & profile to get the results I'm after, but that's half the fun of it.

I have a few accurate loads for each of my 30-06
I zero the rifle on the "most plentiful components" load and write down the scope offset for the others.
I also chrony the loads in order to be able to compute drop tables at distances I can't experiment.
