I got a USGI synthetic stock today. Very nice. However there are a few small things I've noticed. Across from the selector cut, on the left side of the stock there seems to be a small hump that leaves a gap between the receiver and the stock. Is that normal? The trigger group locks up solid with the receiver. Also the upper butt plate screw on the Norc stock is different that the USGI. Anyone know where I can get the correct USGI screw? A nut and holder came with the USGI stock while the Norc has a sort of wood screw. What other things have I missed. One good surprise was finding the cleaning kit,oil bottle and a tool in the butt of the Norc stock. I've had the rifle for a month and never knew it was there.

The hump and gap sound normal, what you want is solid contact starting from the edge of the gap and going around the back and to the other side of the receiver, supporting the "heel" of the receiver. If you are looking to get maximum accuracy from it you may want to bed the stock for a custom fit to the action.

Can't help you with finding a screw, but I think some people use the norc screw and fill the space in the usgi stock with a bedding compound such as jb weld, creating a threaded socket to fit the screw. Just remember to use a release agent on the screw and buttplate assembly or you will end up with the buttplate permanently welded to the stock.

I can tell you that because when I tried to remove mine I found it had been glued in place by a previous owner. ;)

As for the screw bit, since you have the nut and clip holder still attached inside, you can buy yourself a #10 x32 screw. You'll want about a 1.5 to 2" screw(counter sunk).

This is the thread of the nut currently inside.

You must have wondered why your rifle was so damn heavy...

I believe there is a sticky detailing how to fill in the selector cutout, and you'll need to add a spacer to keep the pin that holds the spring guide from walking out. The USGI stock has clearance to allow the FA linkage to go there and you need to fill that space, again, see the stickies. As mentioned you can get a screw at either Can tire or Home depot or similar...have fun, those stocks are a great step up from the chu wood.

Thanks guys You bet this new stock is a real step up from the chinese one. I did find the Norc wood was swelling too. The trigger guard was getting difficult to remove as the wood was starting to "grow" around it. I'll check CTC for the correct bolt.

you probably won't be able to get a real usgi screw and it's probably not worth it to go to numrich and import it-however, if you get out your tap and die set and determine the size and thread, you can get a replacement at any hardware store- this is a nut and bolt affair with a clip and uses a stepped screw( ie it changes size on the shank on the real thing)
