Many here know that I have several Ithacas.
But recently I find myself steering more towards my hinge action shotguns.
I already own an O/U SKB, a drilling and an older coach gun, a repro' blunderbuss and one lonely single shot smokeless 10.

I see in my future a continental 16 and maybe a pedersoli muzzle loading 12 bore next.

If that comes to pass, perhaps a RRL in 28? :)

If yer looking for modern, how about a Pedersoli La Bohemienne hammer gun? They are quite nice.

I am finally getting my inclinations fulfilled in that regard. Always liked singleshot rifles, finding the hiwalls getting a bit heavy for packing around, picked up a Merkel K1, very nice to carry. Also picked up a Krieghoff SXS, that is nice to carry as well.
My tastes were running to SXS shotguns lately, I have had a few different 20 ga SXS's & O/U over the years, and decided I was going to get what I wanted while I still could. So, I picked up a Ringneck CZ 20ga a few yrs ago,it inspired me to get a 12ga.So, last yr, a Fabarm 12ga boxlock SXS and this yr a Fabarm sideplated boxlock grIV version 12ga. That pretty much completes the shotguns.
So, my quest is getting fulfilled, I will sell a few more falling blocks, the 700, may sell the Merkel, may upgrade the CZ Ringneck to something else. Or spend that money to get the H&H rook rifle relined or rebarreled, probably as a .22. I will keep the Stevens 044-1/2 in 218bee and the #1 in 450/400NE.
And I'll keep the SBE as a backup gun.
At least, that is the general line of thought.

How 'bout a nice Ithaca/SKB SxS in 20 ga. to go with your others ... ?

I've got a very close option with a Model 500 Ithaca/SKB in 20 gauge already friend. ;)

16 gauge with fluid steel SxS is currently plaguing my mind. But I wish to get a decent one with a 2 3/4 inch chamber. Just for more universal use, in the long run.

But I like the way you think!

This is long overdue for a response. Your suggestion will be taken into careful consideration friend.

What gets my attention on this SxS shotgun, is it's barrel color and bag pistol grip & stock, are virtually identical to my antique BP drilling.
I find the hammers so appealing too.

Cheers!

if you do buy the La Bohemeienne , get ready for a lot of question being asked if you show up at the trap and skeet club with it!:p
steel approved browned barrels, good locks and an naturally pointing gun ( for me anyway!)
You will love it- I took the steel butt plate off mine and installed a recoil pad, and it is a detestable safety on it as well ( who the heck needs that with rebounding hammers and a break action??!!)
Cat

^Very Nice Cat! This fine shotgun reminds me so much of the days of yore when steel shot (jacketed) in idle conversation, could have been mistaken for what surplus ammunition was fed to someone's Mauser or LE rifle.

My drilling was a complete return. Now I wish for something that is a more waterfowl friendly (that S word again!) with readily available factory legal birdshot and yet still balanced and light enough for a full day walking the fields after huns and sharptails and stuffed with lead.

Cheers!

^I came back to doubles because of a few weak links in otherwise very fine shotgun designs.

When one rabbit hunts (and grouse hunts all fall) as much as I do, you eventually find the one weak link in your pump action shotgun choice.

I wish to purchase better quality hinge action designs for less maintenance and pass them on as heirlooms in the very distant future. Unless I pick up another smokeless 10 gauge magnum, there are no semi-auto shotguns in my future. Muzzle loading shotguns would be my only other personal choice for uplands hunting. That's where I am at these days and I don't mind cleaning up BP residue forthwith.

Cheers!
