Charles Daly 601 12g semis any good?

I had the 20ga. It went boom. Not pretty but it worked well. Its gas operated so its a pain to clean up. But I think most gas operated shotguns are like that.

I've got the shorter barrel 20ga compact version. So far it shoots great, barely any recoil, super light to carry and hasn't given me any issues.

I can't comment on long term durability, but for the price i don't expect to shoot 10000 rounds of clays with it. It's a hunting gun that will be carried more than it's shot and i don't mind if it gets scratched up or banged around in the woods.

Good and Bad . . .

I bought one last summer for about $400 and have fired about 50 slugs and a few #7.5s. The Butt pad is nice and soft so no probs with the slugs. Ran fine with all ammo until I went out in 0*C weather and had FTE, prob due to cold lube? If you're buying on-line, email or phone to talk to Sales to verify what you're actually getting. The description showed a Ghost ring, However, mine came to me with an 'Open-notch' rear sight that would not adjust well at all. I didn't want to mess with return BS so 'fixed it myself. I had to put in a longer screw to get elevation correct (at 50 yds) AND the Horizontal would not slide far w/o running into the sight-frame. I had to file it down LOTS to get it to run right. And a new (cheap) Ghost ring sight costs about $50 so not an option for me.
Depends on if you're "... handsome or handy...".

I shot plenty of slugs in mine in -10C conditions and it cycled well. I didnt see anything I could shoot while walking around in the woods. So no idea how a hunting load would cycle at those temps. Tried a few turkey loads in fair march/april temps and they shot fine.

I had a 20ga black synthetic version and it ran flawlessly. Bought it for less than the taxes i paid on my a400. Sold it to a friend for his kid to start hunting with. I wouldnt mind another. The gas system worked well. Recoil was very light. Empty hulls would almost make it to the next station while shooting skeet

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm gonna get one. I don't plan on putting alot of rounds through it. More for hunting than anything. For $300 with wood furniture and three chokes I think it's pretty good.

Where are you getting it from if you don't mind me asking (you can answer AFTER putting an order in for yours of course lol)?

Anything Charles Daly is a budget shotgun.. wouldn't trust them.
Turks can build quality for only a few hundred dollars more.
Buy once, cry once.

Budget shotguns or garbage shotgun? Just curious as I have owned many budget shotguns that performed well, also a few that did not. Haven't read much about these shotguns good or bad. A few people saying they work well though. I have a 20 inch nickel plated 12 guage made my aakar which is same parent company as these if I understand correctly. It works reliable all day so far, not a single failure. Bought it now so hopefully its good!
