Charles Daly Single Shot Break Action

Many may scuff but a cylinder bore can work quite well with federal premium flight control wads. I used a 18.5" cylinder barrel with said ammo and it worked well for a tom and a jake at 27 and 19 yards iirc. Just under 30 and 20 yards anyway. Pattern your gun and work within its limits. You maybe surprised. Just remember to use a plug when hunting

Yes, going to definitely try patterning the maverick first with some different loads....I feel there is a possibility it may surprise me!

Federal flight control wadded ammo helps keep a tighter pattern. If 20 yards or 25 yards is your max range for an effective ethical kill set your self up for those types of shots using terrain or natural cover instead of hunting field edges and bigger openings. I have dedicated turkey rigs that allow me to ethically kill birds beyond the ranges of most other rigs but i find myself enjoying the limitations of using other types guns like vintage 2.5" chambered side by sides or damascus barreled double guns and even archery gear. Hunting doesnt have to be about who has the latest greatest gear. I think to many ppl forget that or simply over look it. Nothing wrong with using and owning the cool stuff though.

I am going to look deeper into that Federal stuff. If I can, I would like to use my Maverick for turkey hunting, I will pattern it and see how it looks and go from there.

And I agree...for some reason, I have always been attracted to the simple or what some may call "old" or "cheap" ways of getting things done.
