Interesting, I think in Ontario if your caught with a loaded gun in the bush, there is an automatic assumption that you are hunting. I believe you have to have targets setup and be target shooting to say otherwise.

There are species that have no closed season , so , as long as you have your valid small game license and staying within the regs of your WMU , , your good to go.
Anything over the ,275cal limit (southern Ontario) is when you need the targets , no matter what time of the year.

Except for Northern Ontario and some Central Ontario WMU's where small game licenses are invalid from June 16th - Aug 31.

Does anyone know why that is? Skunk is open all year up here yet we can't hunt them in the summer?

Although I have never been chased I was followed for a long way. They look for opportunity & were sure not afraid of me. I was bear hunting so armed & not worried. I do have personal information of a coyote charging my sister while on horseback. I will never call BS because 1: I was not there,2: preditors eat any meat they can safely overtake,3: wolves are not nice cuddly critters. And to those that question my honesty and facts you can KMA. ... well somebody had to say it .. gotta call a spade a spade .. (as in a shovel .... fingers off the ban button OK?)

I have been talking to some folks since posting my above comment and now accept the initial post as true. Who'ld have thunk Wolves would be that bold?

The wolves would have acted very differently if he had run the Quad AT them. They are dogs. You've always been told not to run from a dog. Don't run from wolves either -- for the same reason. They are interested in saving their own skin above all other interests. Make them think you are dangerous, they go away -- or at least hold back at a distance.

Your buddy probably got too close to some dude's grow-op and was chased by a bunch of Rotties. After all, this supposedly happened in Quesnel.

Family friend the other day was out on his farm just outside of Quesnel BC touring his fields on an ATV. He stopped his ATV and was checking a fence when a HUGE black wolf came out of the brush. It pawed the ground then let out a long howl. Out of the brush came 5 more wolves and started to run at him. He wasn't carrying his rifle at the time so he jumped onto his ATV and took off but they kept chasing him. At one point he had to stop the bike and get off to open up a gate which almost let them catch up. Finally though the wolves got tired of chasing him or something but stopped and turned around.

I would be a little scared... and wouldn't go anywhere without a gun anymore! The went back the next day searching to see if there was a killed animal around and that was maybe the reason the wolves chased him but there was nothing dead around there, not even parts.
What really upset him was he dropped his prized "Crack pipe" in the retreat:rolleyes:

a pack of wolves would attack a lonesome adult... however, him running away made it worse, coz it made him a prey... if i were hiim, i'd jump on the ATV and charge back at them full speed... most probably they'd run away... that's like 99%, but if they didn't and the 1% of the ATV hitting any of them prevails, they'll learn not to attack humans again

Ever hear of prey drive , dogs are civilized wolves! Dogs operate in prey drive and chase things ( When inclined ) , what do you think a Wolf will do ? Something sparked their interest ! Coyotes will operate in the same manner !!

I used to work in the Zama area up in north west Alberta. Several times I picked up dogs , some near starving. Likely strayed from the reserves in the area or unwanted dogs dropped off in the bush. My wife would find them homes. Once at dusk I saw a young black dog, barely more than a puppy, in the ditch as I approached the hiway. I got out and walked toward it trying to coax it to me. He just glanced over his shoulder occasionally as he walked down the road. I followed him, calling for him to come. He went down into the ditch and stopped just at the trees and turned to stare at me. I looked down into the muddy ditch and saw tracks, LOTS of BIG tracks, going into the bush at the same place. I looked back into his eyes (OH $HiT) and realized this was no puppy dog. I looked back at my truck and it seemed like it was a couple of miles away, but it was only about the longest 125 yards I'd ever seen. I backed up all the way to the truck, eying the bush, while the little bugger just stared. Stupid of me, but I was used to seeing dogs and it never occurred to me that it would be a wolf. I didn't think the pack would attack, but it does make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
