Mossberg 702 Plinkster. $179 at P&D in Edmondon Good lookin little shooter with some good accuracy althought I do reccemend the 10/22 for a hundred bucks more.
While I'm a huge fan of Mossberg, and can attest to the accuracy, value, and quality of the older models, I have seen mixed reviews on the 702 Plinkster.
They are made by Magtech in Brazil.
You never really said what you are going to use it for.
Ive got a Marlin 795
Its amazingly accurate out of the box. Especially with decent optics. The higher power the better. Id say its just as accurate as my scope. Which is a bushnel 40x3-12 with a/o. Big glass is really key to this rilfe. In the summertime my buddy and i go to the range and benchrest crickets. Just so you know i always win! Just so you know i did have some jams when i got it but its not the fault of the gun. the magazines were a little bent out of shape. A few minutes with the pliers fixed the problem and its virtually flawless. The only thing i dont like about the marlin is it has a very heavy trigger pull which makes for kind of a crappy follow up shot. plus you get a bit more muzzle flip than other semis ive handled.
One thing to keep in mind though if you dont want to spend money on extra mags and you want to do a lot of plinking it might be best to look into a tube fed magazine. Ive got a 552 speed master which personally i find the champion of semis out of the box. and can probably load the 15 rnd mag in less than ten seconds. I find myself loading mags moreoften then shooting with the marlin. How long does it take to load a 25rnd stick mag?
If you really want a great all arounder though check with the 552 ive got one and dont even want a 10-22. Mine shoots 22lr and short in the same magazine. It has a very short, crisp pull from the factory. shoots extremly level with no bounce plus it matches my other remingtons..lol.
There are soooo many out there good luck with yours.
Mind you 10-22s are kick ass but i would not be happy with a stock one and could see myself with a thousand dollar one which i dont really need.
when ive got my 552 that never jams.
Success sells period. 10-22 rules, as good as any outa the box and a whole huge after-market out ther waiting for you to spend money. Stock or pimped they are just plain fun to shoot. Good luck in your quest.
