Cheap .223, recomendations?

Thanks for the replies,
I've been researching prices for new Stevens 200's and
looks like that's the way I may go, although if the right price/gun
comes along I'll have to go second hand.
Although the price of a new 200 is cheap, maybe I should buy new,
then again..................

i'm not sure about the superlight h&r's, but i handled a heavy barrel H&R in .223 the other day and it seemed so dang heavy, especially considering how short it was:(

those stevens 200 are nice and light, so much so i bought one after putting the H&R back on the shelf.

then i came across a rem 700 sps in .223 today and bought it, i'm not sure if it's just the slightly better stock or what but the remmy just feels better in my hands, but that could just be the chevy/ford/dodge mentality, but i will probably be selling the stevens shortly if anyone is looking for one.

The stevens 200 really is a great value gun in my oppinion.
They can be had new for $360.

Stevens 200 cheaper then that at Cdn Tire in Kenora Ont.Look for their web site.Under new guns and then hit Stevens. Just picked up another .223 for 300.00 before tax and shipping. It helps to haggle or at least ask. They are nice and easy to deal with.

I got my used .223 handi today. It looks great. I ran my boresnake through and the bore looks good. Its a 2005 model so it has seen some use. Ill have to buy a hammer extension, a mount screw which was missing and some higher rings for my bushnell 3-9.

I was most surprised to see the recessed muzzle crown.

I read on greybeards (best nef/h&r site) that the barrel release is supposed to be loose when closed but tight when open. Mine is loose either way, not sure if this is a problem.

The ejector is very strong too lol.

I hope to get it out as soon as the snow melts a bit.

Got my Baikal .223 today from Baikal Canada. Very fast and efficient to deal with. Took it out with me on my after work snowshoe.....it's a lot of fun. Can't comment on accuracy yet, was just stump jumping, but I hit everything I aimed at. I like the hammerless design for a single shot, and it fits me really well too.

Oh, another single shot .223
Didn't know about the Baikal single shot, where did you get it from?
Baikal Canada?
What's the model?

Also, hmr-hound let us know how that handi shoots when your get
around to it.

Cheers
