Hi All,

I recently picked up a Savage MarkII FV-SR and have decided to try to give back a bit if i can.

I wanted to know for myself what shoots best and decided to photo document the rounds used. I will be taking higher magnification macro shots of the ammo and an explanation of each brand. Nothing spectacular but should provide a detailed look up close at the cartridge.

I will then report back in a while when I get a chance to shoot it and record the results. I just thought some of these pictures might help anyone who wants to see a visual comparison on the ammo and the results in my gun.

I'll start off with the brands and rounds that I've got on hand to start with.

CCI - Blazer
Winchester - T22 Target
Federal - Champion 510
Remington - Cyclone
Remington - Game Loads
Remington - 22 Target (Blue Box)

I may add more in the future but I haven't had a chance to find more than this.

A few years ago I bought a .22LR conversion kit for my Colt Government Model to shoot steel gopher matches. It takes a bit of juice to take down steel gophers so I chronoed about 10 or 15 different types. What did I learn, NEVER believe the muzzle velocity printed on the box. Every firearm has a different MV.

Totally agree. Plus every gun likes different ammo. I've had two different 715t mossys and one had issues with fte/ftl dynapoints but grouped well when they did fire. The other ate them fine but didn't group them as close as the first gun. Out of my savage btvs dynapoint are deadly.
I'm very cheap and will not pay twice as much for match grade ammo and cci.
AE and dynapoint is 4¢ and yellowjacket/ minimag and other match grade is 6-8¢
My friends laugh at me and tell me I've picked the wrong hobby if I'm cheap.
It's not like I'm shooting 20-50¢ a shot centerfire, lol.

These and other reasons are why I'm doing this.

Many people won't even touch most of the remington stuff and I was inclined to be a part of that group but figured I'll at least give it a chance and see what happens. The worst that could happen is that I clean my gun and write remington off and never buy it again.

As well I was curious as to whether there were any visual characteristics of a reliable accurate ammunition. Some of the brands look beat up compared to others and some look obviously lubed like the Federal. Others are far smoother looking like the CCI Blazer. No theories yet but I'm curious to see if there are any trends that occur.

Essentially a search for the best bang for buck ammo.

Obviously different ammo shoot differently in different guns so YMMV but I'm curious to prove for myself what works and what doesn't.

I set out to do the same thing that you are doing a few weeks back with my .22lr's.

I tested products that I could find in value packs at my local retailers:

CCI AR Tactical
Remington Cyclone
Remington Thunderbolt
Winchester XPert HV
Winchester Dynapoint GT
Winchester Target
Winchester 555
Blazer

Out of everything that I tested, I found that in my Savage Model 64 semi auto the CCI AR Tactical performed the best for the least number of jams. However, in my Winchester Cooey Model 60 bolt action and my wife's Savage Mark II bolt action, the Remington Cyclone are HANDS DOWN the best for accuracy and the least number of duds.
