Cheap 308 components for plinking rounds?

and apparently you didn't read my entire response:
"If the op wants a something that doesn't cost much then there are several online sources of SKS for a couple of hundred bucks. Add in a case of 1500 rounds of surplus ammo for another $250 and have at 'er. That's under $0.17 a round for the ammo alone, a whopping $0.30 a round if you include the cost of the rifle amortized in with that first case of 1500. Cheaper than the cheapest possible cost of reloading for a .308. No wasted time or cost buying reloading gear, actually sitting down and reloading, or sourcing components. Just go shoot!"

I do NOT see one word about it not being capable of being used to shoot in any way one would wish to should it be allowable. Read it through again. I explicitly say to go buy one and a crate of surplus ammo and "Just go shoot!"

I still don't see where anyone said 2 MOA was acceptable for target shooting; BRs post you quote says "almost any practical application", which to me at least means shooting things that need getting shot, not target shooting work. It also clearly allows for those circumstances where 2 MOA ISN'T sufficient. In that, he's very much correct in that almost any practical use of a rifle will be fulfilled with a 2 MOA system.

I suppose too you missed the part where the OP said he wants a cheaper .308 load, not simply something cheaper. So, no, he doesn't just want something that doesn't cost much, he wants .308 that doesn't cost much. I'm reading between the lines there and assuming he's got a specific rifle he wants to plink with, rather than just looking for anything cheap. It's also strictly a matter of opinion, but I'm not sure many reloaders would consider reloading to be "wasted time." I find it very enjoyable actually, as much or more so than shooting. YMMV of course.

I don't understand how an SKS can be not "acceptable for target shooting" - because it sure as heck isn't close to a 2 MOA rifle - while also "being capable of being used to shoot in any way one would wish should it be allowable"? On one hand, it's not acceptable for target shooting, but on the other it's capable of being shot in any way one wishes. I don't understand that. Personally, I can't stand the things, I don't have a kind word to say about them, but I also can't see any reason why they're not perfectly acceptable for punching paper if that's what one wanted to do.

I'm still curious as to why 2 MOA isn't good enough for target shooting? Why not? I personally prefer much more accurate rifles myself, indeed my main preference is loading for and shooting precision rifle, but imposing some arbitrary 2 MOA limit for target work doesn't seem to have much basis in reality. It would sure kill a lot of provincial rifle association rifle matches, for one thing.

And still dying to see those 2 MOA lever gun groups.

Cast bullets are great but if he is shooting a semi auto rifle the light loads might not produces enough hot gases to cycle the action.

They probably won't, but intentionally creating a stoppage, by inserting an under powered load with your full powered loads isn't the worst form of training either. Its useful to a semi-auto shooter to train himself to check the bore if he hears an unusual sound, or no sound, when his trigger breaks. Besides that, a semi-auto rifle makes a nice straight pull repeater, if you want to hunt small game, or shoot groups with reduced loads.
