Is there anyone that makes a cheap .50 bmg rifle? I mean like just a long tube, trigger, bipod, and a hole to shove a single shot in?

yes, the name escapes me at the moment as it keeps changing as the end result is the gun fails and some one ends up with a face full of shrapnel.

cheap and 50BMG will never go together

edit: seems the most current name for the company is "vulcan"

its not overly graphic but gets the point across

The cost of the rifle is the least of your concern, If you can't afford a quality unit you certainly can't afford the glass and ammunition. If it really is a dream to own one, make it a long term project and budget a little bit each month. It won't take long and it will be a reality.
How many guys do you know that "can't afford" a .50 but spend 500-1000 every 3 months on a rifle/handgun/booze/fastfood....

this!

Listen to Twoshots as he has it right and you can make it happen. 50bmg and cheap shouldn't be used in the same sentence. HAHA. You will love it the 1st time you shoot one so save/budget and make it a reality ... I did with my 1st one ... I now own two. GOODluck bud! ;)

I believe that the cheap single shot shellholder type action you are describing is called Hagleberg or Hakleberg or something like that. They run around $2500ish if my memory is correct.

Don't bother with it. For an extra $1000-1500, you can get the single shot repeater Steyr HS50, which is an excellent firearm for the money, and far better built. If you are serious about it, save you nickels and dimes and get the HS50, and budget a minimum of $5.00 per shot. That said most times I take it to the range, I don't usually put more then 20-30 shots through it, thats a great day for me. (On the flip side, I have fired over 100 in a day, and yes, it was as good as it seemed. :)

all depends on what you consider "cheap"

to some an C Class Mercedes is cheap because it's not an AMG S Class... it's all about perspective.

Noreen makes a shell holder type and I think there is a knock off made by Canstar (?) name may be wrong but something like that and they'lll be in the $3k to $4k range

There is also the Barrett M99 which is on the lower end of the price spectrucm in the $4k range.

Wouldn't a .50bmg AR upper be the most cost effective way into this caliber? Some of them are advertised around the $1500 mark in the US. Although this limits you to shooting at official ranges.

Here's a thought. Join your local Militia infantry or armoured unit and you will have a good chance of shooting a Browning .50 cal MG for free. There's nothing quite like hearing the leopard cough of the big M2 and seeing the big trace go downrange, all for free of course.
I don't know if the reserves get to train on the .50 cal sniper rifles, but once you are in uniform there's always a possibility of this happening.

As a bonus you will also learn some other useful skills, like making your bed on a regular basis and improving your personal dress and grooming. :p

The Hagelberg FH-50 is a decent entry level rifle for the money. Inexpensive, yes. Cheap, no. The bolt is a bit wonky, but hey, $1500-$2500 more is a lot of money for a typical bolt.
