Cheap 7.62x39 Range Safe

Reload. It works for me but I'm not the kind to just blast away. I enjoy testing the possible accuracy of my rifles but do once in a while enjoy to run a few mags nice n quick. Think the best thing for op would be to do is join an other range.

FMJ is FMJ. Doesn't matter what composition is. Far more likely to damage the back stop than spark anything. Some ricochet possibility too. However, your least expensive option is to reload.
Buying ammo or reloading components online gets expensive quickly.

I don't know why these idiots have a problem with lead free projectiles. Full copper jacket lead core from a .303 makes a perfect hole in 1/4" steel plate. 170 gr soft point, .303 makes a nasty divot and bulbous hole on the same metal. Steel core and jacket, the jacket becomes apart of the steel plate and the core hits the backstop. The hole is no worse or better than the copper fmj.

The only range safe ammo for these twits is blank, maybe rubber or frangible.

Agree, time to find a new club.

^^^The op was specifically talking about an indoor range, see post #13. It's already been said why indoor ranges have issues with steel core or bi metal jacket ammo. Their backstops most likely can't handle the fmj or the ricochet risk isn't something they want to deal with on a liability level if I had to guess.

If I had to guess, any outdoor ranges that ban steel core ammo just don't want to deal with the types of rifles that come along with surplus ammo. Fudds dislike that sort of stuff if I had to guess.
