Hi,
Just a friendly favour from a fellow CGN'r... Can you guys please shoot some more ammo??? Then the metals that the companies bought for a high price and are still holding there to reap their max profit - will lower in price again and we can all go back to shooting CHEAP AMMO!!:runaway:
...I miss $6 a box .223. :( I know the old timers will tell me mythical tales of when it was EVEN CHEAPER LOL!

Guess what; enjoy it while it lasts because in 12-24 months, there might be no more over-the-counter pistol ammo sales in Canada. These current prices are not going down.

They're slowly starving us of ammunition. It's not all to do with the cost of metals (which are down huge btw) and there won't be a correction in retail prices like we saw at the gas pumps when oil went down. There's a gun-control movement much bigger than the liberal party of Canada.. and if they can't take our guns, they'll take away our ability to feed them.

I predict in 3 years only reloaders will be shooting pistol (or NATO) rounds.

You kiddin me? Our government can't even properly control our country let alone prices of the things we buy.

Price is determined by cost to produce, demand and availability. As demand keeps rising, availability weakens, manufacturers get more pressure internationally, and prices will continue to rise for some ammo.

This is not something I want to believe, and it's not my personal opinion. Had a very extensive chat with someone who imports several tonnes of ammo into the country every year. He sees the trend, and it's pointing to a complete drought in retail sales for rounds such as 9mm in the not-so-distant future.

Don't forget; Barack Obama is not an an idiot. He knows the sleeping beast he'll awake if he were to ban any type of guns currently being sold in america. What his agenda is; is to slow the production of ammunition, eventually to where each individual round sold to the public is accounted for and taxed.
 
Yea 2 continuing wars that started back in 2001 would have nothing to do with our ammo prices. That's crazy talk.

Scrap prices have dropped, car guys are starting to hoard there scrap cars till the prices go back up.

I think Fonix and others are stating that the government is manipulating the ammo supply. We just have to look at how NRCAN (or whatever they are) has required stringent testing of all ammo sold in Canada based on whatever criteria the Feds have dreamed up. Strange that so much suprlus ammo can be sold nearly anwhere in the world, except for Canada, because our government has decided it does not pass Canadian testing. Never mind surplus ammo like millions of rds of 8mm (which Marstar bought huge amounts, and owner Johnone has stated that due to Canadian regs not approving it for sale in Canada, he is forced to sell 90% of all his ammo stock to the U.S.). Even current production ammo like Wolf and Lapua are not approved for Canadian use. It is much easier for the government to controll ammo than to ban guns. Like others have said, they are starving our the supply, ever so slowly, and quietly.

Wouldn't they be banning all 7.62x39mm, 7.62x51mm, .223, ect, not 8mm, if they wanted to rid Canada of evil guns?

Wolf,
Look at an American publication such as Shotgun News and you will see how much more ammo selection and from different manufacturers is available. There is no reason why this stuff shouldn't be available in Canada, but it isn't due to whatever testing requirements it fails at NRCAN. Also, I think some of the vendors mentioned they have to pay $10k to have ammo tested and approved. That's alot to pay especially if the ammo in question does not pass testing and your out $10k now.

Oh I know there is a lot of ammo not available to the Canadian public, and I don't know any legit reasons, but if they wanted to rid Canadians of firearms there are a lot of easier ways to do it.

I'll beleive the $10k costs if a dealer chimes in with a personal experience.

Knowing a little on how hobby rocket motors are tested for approval by NRCAN my guess would be that the cost would be the amount/quantity of ammo the company would have to cough up for NRCAN to do their testing procedures.

What we truly need is re-loader's like Wolf and Combat Masters Enterprises Ltd. need to start making reloads for the most used rifle and shotgun cartridges.
E.G. :
7.62 x 39mm, 7.62 x 51mm, 5.56 x 45mm, 12g trap loads and also 20g trap loads.

And then start pumping 'em out at reasonable prices

I'd think a canadian company that could do that would make a killing
 
There used to be a company in Idaho that would come to the Puyallup WA gun show every month.
The deal was that you brought your fired brass to trade for their reloads.
As I recall, (above 12 years ago) the price for 1000 9x19mm or .223 was around US$125 plus your 1000 empties.
My friends and I bought quite a few crates during that time.
