Cheap AR-15's

So there have been a lot of threads about these and some of us including myself got caught up on the competition side of it.

But I was just thinking more about it tonight and realize, "Holy Crap" think of all the people getting into the AR/restricted game. I love it!!!!!!

SCREW YOU ANTI GUNNERS!!!!!!!

:rockOn::rockOn::rockOn::rockOn:

Adding up the cost of building my two lowers and three uppers from only the last year... I would say the retailers have made some good $$ off me just for parts. Likely to the tune of double or triple the cost of a whole gun at today's rock bottom prices. As a retailer I would imagine that is worthy of some thought.. Unlike other rifles, the AR demands you accessorize it and make it your own. imagine if it is de-restricted and available to any PAL holder... and at these prices!! Norcs will fly from the shelves I say!! :)

The norc I got when the first big sale of the year came (canam special) has been without issue.

I'd probably go for the dpms if I was buying my first one today, though. Just to have the better name brand.

I might just pre order an aero upper and lower from Saskatoon gun works, just to sock away until I figure out what I'd like to make it into. I'd like a 20" rifle of some sort, next.

Or a .308

I can't see buying another 14-16" AR of any brand or make. Just gonna shoot the piss out of the norc, since it's got little in the way of resale value

I can't believe people are still buying Norc's when there are $1000 Colts and $1200 Daniel Defense rifles available. Do a little OT at work guys and pony up!

Priorities. I have two kids playing hockey and they are, by far, #1. Their skates cost me $1200 this summer. I've ponied up where it matters.

I've always wanted a Vietnam era'ish M16 rifle so the $500 Norinco option is looking really good right now. I already own a Norinco 14.5" rifle and it's performed flawlessly so getting another seems like a good bet to me.

Just sold my CQ-A to a member and all i can say is if you except the average finish this rifle is just full reliable, the fact that they dont cost much dont take away the huge fun factor... JP.

Are you buying 18.5 + barrels? If they go NR the problem won't be finding AR15's but I would imagine longer barrels would be almost impossible to obtain. (For a while anyways) Maybe
I should grab one now, just incase hell does freeze over! Lol.

Been looking for one in stainless.. I already can't find any! Then again maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. Doh!

What makes you think that if they do go non restricted they won't also change the length requirement? A little common sense says that a 10.5 inch barrel is just as dangerous as a 22 inch barrel (it's actually less dangerous with the lower muzzle velocity).
I think that they should just go with the idea that if you are licensed to own a firearm you are licensed to own any firearm available in Canada and if you are responsible enough to use a long rifle away from the range you are responsible enough to use any firearm away from the range.
Some stiffer punishment for those that do use them in the commission of a crime and leave the law abiding alone to enjoy their sport.

That being said I now have 5 AR's, the fifth one is in the mail on it's way to me and is my first AR-10 :D

Is 18.5 not the minimum barrel length for all semi-auto centre fire rifles? It's enough of a stretch to have the Ar platform classified as NR but to change barrel length requirements as well. I think we're dreaming. Not that I do not agree with you.

How would it work having an NR upper and a R upper if they went NR above 18.5“ since it's registered for the lower.

How would it work to bring both uppers to a range to shoot?

That's a god question, I've seen guys with a 10.5 and an 16 inch barrel for one lower. What size is registered with the CFO? Do you have to register as both? I have been told you only have to register a barrel length change if it is permanent but you must transport it with the registered length.

From what I have seen most of the problems are with budget build parts guns (including manufacturers/assemblers using junk parts).

Problem is most of those who buy a DPMS (example) put just a few rounds through it and go on the Internet saying how it's been 100% etc etc... spreading misinformation that gets people into buying cheap #### with the false impression that they're actually getting something good, while those of us who really put our guns through their paces shoot more rounds in one shooting session than most here do in a year, and we've all seen our share of cheap guns "that were supposed to be super duper reliable cheap guns" #### the bed.

None of my AR's are factory guns BTW, I've built them all to a certain extent. They're all 100%, but that was measured in the thousands of rounds and NO cleaning and using them as TOOLS.

It's not that weird looking one that Norc had out before, this one comes with the new A2 handguards and a flat top with removeable carrying handle, and a normal looking buttstock. But now that Colts, DDs, DPMSs are all dropping in price, I'm not so sure I want to blow $700 on a Norc anymore, unless they drop the price way down.

20in barrel seems interesting, and apparently also hammer forged, but $700 for a Norc when American ARs are going for $500-$1000.

Wow. I really like the looks of this model. But, as you say, it's a lot to pay when American rifles are going for less. On the other hand, my 14.5" Nork from Can Am runs like a champ.

Yes it is but I mentioned if they use a little common sense at the same time if they do make the AR non restricted.

To answer the questions about what about a guy with a long and a short upper and one lower, this is exactly why they should get rid of the barrel length restriction.
Let's use my Bushmaster ACR as an example. I have installed a non restricted length barrel and had it de-classified and it is now non restricted. If I were to take a factory 16 inch barrel and swap it into the chassis (a minute or less) I have just created a non registered restricted firearm which could land me in jail. There is a 30 day grace period to register it but during those 30 days I am not allowed to shoot it, I am only allowed to take it to a gunsmith or to a firearms verifier to do the paperwork to change it's classification.
This is why the barrel length restriction would be stupid and would make it virtually impossible to move the AR to non restricted unless they trash the barrel length restriction.

Crazy. An AR owner with other priorities than his/her rifles and thus choosing to go the low cost route so they can still enjoy the shooting sports. Un-possible.

According to some, YOU are 100% wrong, are destroying the shooting sports in Canada and should be stoned to death! :)

Have fun, enjoy, and please encourage your kids to shoot too.
