Hi,

Just bought an Windham Weaponry Ar-15 chambered in .223remington.

I would like to convert it to shoot handgun caliber (9mm would be best) as I can't shoot rifle ammo at my local range.

What is the cheapest possible option to do this? Any legal issues?

Thanks

What canbill said.

To convert your existing 223 AR to shoot 9mm or other pistol center-fire would be a ##### to say the least. Better to keep your AR as is and buy a dedicated 9mm AR. Rock River Arms or Spike (forget which one) and Colt 9mm AR15's are available in Canada, but are restricted. If I were you, I would probably choose a Thureon Defense or a JR Carbine since they are non-restricted and commonly available for a PCC that is similar to an AR.

there is no cheap way to convert AR to 9mm...... they use a different upper, need lower mag insert, need to actually find mags (hard/expensive), new bolt carrier, bolt, hammer, buffer, barrel, etc

you will spend much more than a pistol caliber carbine and it will still be restricted

I bought a CMMG .22 upper and then configured it to match my .223 upper. They are close to identical in look weight and feel which makes the .22 a better trainer.

Buy JR 9 mm, lot easier than source out all the parts for a pistol calibre build, the non restricted status is a bonus and the best part is it is another gun in your collection. :)
