So I'm looking to get a cheap AR upper only to build a project to do some testing. I do not want expensive, I want cheap so when I abuse it it doesn't hurt that much, lol.

If anyone is tracking any great AR upper sales, (NEA, Aero, etc), shoot me a pm.

Pretty hard to abuse an upper unless you're going to try to assemble one with only a hammer and a pipe wrench. I'd go with an AERO upper from Saskatoon Gunworks, price is good and they are good quality.

I have a slick side upper I used for my 9mm AR and it's nice. You get used to it pretty fast :)

Just keep watching, the right one will pop up one of these days. You can buy complete uppers from shops as well but harder to find that deal you just can't say no to.
 
OP, if you want an upper that's cheap, True North Arms has (had) theirs on for about $100.

It's an A3 style upper - I don't know if that's what you're looking for.
