Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for some advice. I'm in the Canadian Forces and would like to have an AR 15 specifically to improve my shot with my service rifle. I obviously can't work on the fully automatic facet of my service rifle shooting but, to be completely honest, theres not a lot of that any ways. I'm on a very limited budget, but being an accurate shot is something that's very important to me, How am I supposed to be a good soldier if I'm not a perfect shot? I've already gotten my Master Marksman but there's always room for vast improvement. If any one knows of a real cheap ass AR 15 some info would be greatly appreciated, I'm not to worried about quality as I intend to take pretty good care of it (cleaning the weapon is half the fun) so anything cheap is fine.

Also, I don't have my RPAL yet, does CGN think it's okay that I'm not a member of a gun club since I'm in the CF?

Norinco Ar15 are $700 (Chinese AR15)
Core15 Ar15 are $1099 (US made AR15)
Armlite Ar15 are $1125 from wolverines (US made AR15)
Windham Weaponry Ar15 are $1199 ( US made ar15....made by fromer bushmaster employees)

Or you can import a colt Ar15 from the US for around $1400?

Or if you want real good quality, daniel defense ar15 comes with quad rails for around $1500. These are very nice rifles.

Is that really all it costs to get a colt in from the states?!?!? How long can expected wait times be on that kind of approach?

Irungun (site sponsor) will import the gun for you, it cost like $100 importing fee and $25 shipping fee I believe and plus the GST/HST.
The gun itself cost only $1200 USD.

Just GST.
It has been said many times...just GST

Go with the Norinco. Available just about everywhere. If you just want to work on your skill set and improve.
Perfect choice.

Good time of year too. Many of the the advertisers here will have specials for the holiday season. Keep an eye open.

The Daniel Defense line of rifles start at $1575 PLUS taxes, so you are at $1800 with shipping. That is a big chunk of change. But...it is a Rifle you would not have to upgrade.
Except you need to buy sights for it. Add another $120
You get the idea. It does not end up being what you call a cheap AR

Thanks for the help and advice man, I think I'm going to try and save up for the colt.

Interesting. You're from Yarmouth and in the CF? That's a very long drive for you to go to work. What base do you work out of?

make sure to take you pal course first or that AR you buy wont be able to leave your front door.

If you don't have your RPAL, the AR won't even get to your front door. Get your RPAL first.

If you want to increase your proficiency with the C7, all you need is a basic rifle with a flat top, and it might be an idea to install an Elcan, for commonality in sighting. You don't need rails, bells, whistles or bobble headed dolls hung on it.

Yea, I priced an ELcan, they're only like $80! I was planning on throwing one on there. This while thing started out with me hating the round and the weapon, just wanting a similar rifle to help me work on the service rifle shooting, but now I'm kind of in love with the Colt. Irunguns, how ever, seems to be out of stock and I hear they most likely will be for a while.
