Im pretty tempted by this rifle, for the price I can get a scope with it and still come out ahead on a marlin or savage. Tinkering with it wouldn't be that bad since Jerry has laid it out pretty well and it's something I usually enjoy to do
For the money, they are one of the best bets out there, with a lot of possibilities. However, they do have issues, as described in other posts. If you are handy and willing to do some due diligence, then go for one.
Here's something else to consider. A few here appear to be severely cash strapped. Not a sin, it happens to most of us at one time or another.
If you're thinking about a 22RF as a training prelude firearm for a big game rifle, then you better look a lot closer. A complete budget big game rifle can be had for around $400, taxes in. The thing is, cartridges run around $50 plus for a carton of 20. Can you afford to even break in a big game rifle???
While you're looking, check out some of the older, used 22RF repeaters, such as the Canadian made Cooeys. They can be picked up in very decent condition for slightly over $100 or a bit beat up for less. If the bores are good, they're usually very good shooters and clean up well.
