Hey,

Does anyone know of a relatively cheap 1-4x scope I can find for my 10-22? Probably in the range of $200 max. I have a bushnell trophy red dot but I'm looking for something non-battery dependent.

Thanks

+1 for the Redfield 2-7x. Light weight, and seem to hold up well. Mine is on a 223 and its been a champ so far.

Overkill for a .22

Simmons fixed 4x has great reviews and the price is right. Just use it on a .22 only, and it will be fine.

The Leupold VX-1 1-4x20 shotgun/muzzleloader scope has a closer parallax adjustment that would be better suited to rimfires. You could also shop around for a used Vari-X II 1-4.

Don't buy a POS Simmons scope. Junk optics are junk optics on any firearm.

I've put a couple bushnell banner 1.5-4.5x32 on a couple 22s and am very pleased with them. The FOV seems larger then my millett 1-4. The banner is 100 bucks too. I also second the leopold vx2 if you can find a used one.

^ x 2 With mine, I can easily see bullet holes in targets out to about 60+yards. For a scope that maxes-out just over 4X, I think that's pretty wicked. I like the look of the P22 (I've never seen one in the flesh) but parallax setting is min. 50 yards. For a guy looking for a scope in the 1-4x power range, chances are he plans on shooting @ or under 50.

IMHO Simmons scopes are somewhat sleepers, certainly much better than Tascos, BSA, King Optics, NC Star and alike. I had Simmons 2,5x20mm shotgun scope with 6" ER on my heavy recoiling Win 88 in 358Win for doz or so years with no complaint what so ever. If it comes to value for the money then Simmons is high on my list. I just refuse to pay way, way more than double the money just for brand name alone (like Leupold and Ziess among others). Friend of mine was useing Simmons Aetec 2,8x10x44mm for years with no complaint either.

Simmons are crap. I had one that came with a 243WSSM. Looked cool on the scope 6-20x 44m. Mag44 I think it was called. After maybe 20 rounds the adustments didn't seem to work right. Adjustments didn't result in any change. Then it would change. I wasted time trying to figure out WTF was going on until I saw the crosshairs vibrating. I Sh1t you not the crosshair broke on a 243WSSM. Oh and optically, it was like looking through a glass of water. On paper it looked good, but it was a cheap scope.

There are very good value bargains out there and then there is cheap. Never buy cheap. It will cost you far more in the long run.

i have a simmons 22 mag 4x and it s very reliable even in the lovely weather we have. for info i never seen one back for warranty (i worked in retail for a while) i wont say the same for variable ...

cheap not always means junk ...

A Bushnell Trophy 1-4 part no 73-1424M should be close to what you're looking for. It'll be a little north of $200, but it has a 30mm tube and illuminated reticule.
