been searching around but figured ill just ask. are there any left hand bolt action .308 rifles in the same bang per buck category as the stevens 200?

Why buy the stevens 200 then upgrade the stock then upgrade the trigger just buy a rifle in the first place .

Because the rifle can still be shot before these upgrades.

Those of us who do not make large amounts of money would like a rifle that has decent quality and accuracy from the factory, and then, as funds or preference permits, more can be added on.

Maybe not as cheap in the long run, but doable for more people. It's like saying "Why take out a loan and pay interest on a $5000 quad, just save and buy it outright"

Unfortunately, there are some who just can't afford it.

The Savage 10FLP is an excellent value. I have one and it is well worth the money, new it is priced very reasonably.
Note: mine has several upgrades, however the basic rifle is fine, you may want to change the stock?

^^^ thats an $1100 rifle no?

got a tip about a used savage left hand that i can afford

model "16FLSS WEATHER WARRIOR"

anyone have experiences with this one?

IIRC the base model was about $699, that rifle is a few years old however.
With the upgrades that would be on the low end.

It is a decent rifle, and certainly enough for someone new to the game to get going. I am a fan of Savages and as a lefty, it's nice that the company really doesn't seem to consider us a an afterthought. The accutrigger is an excellent, very crisp trigger, and the action and barrel will shoot as well as you need it to. As long as the rifle is in decent shape, go for it.

For the best in stock selection and excellent prices on left handed rifles in Canada that I have found, go to www.ellwoodepps.com

why not go for an ambidextrous rifle?
the cheapest being the Remington pump action 7600, way faster than a bolt, just as accurate as any other remmy, pretty light too and cheaper than a tikka or ruger LH.
should be able to find one scoped for under 5 bills. i picked up one for $350,

thanks muley. thats funny it just so happens to be elwood eps who has it.

12many i have been considering that too. not sure i like the pump though. lever is appealing. marlin has a lever in .308 dont they? 336 variant?

I'm a lefty. Many years ago my choices were Savage and Remington. I tried both. The Remington was a better rifle but that rifle was from 1970's. I've heard nothing much good about the current 700s on many forums.

I belive the cheapest route is used Savage in good condition and be a little more flexible in caliber.

What I did back then was stick with lever actions for hunting. In 308 it is possible to get a nice Savage 99 and it is a strong action capable of pointed bullets. I own a 444 Marlin and can recommend them highly for a lefty. The 308 clone Marlin is a fine gun. The Angle Eject Winchester is ok too but the 308 clone cartridge, 307 Winchester?, is quickly becoming obsolete.

If your heart is set on a bolt I'd look at the Savage first and last.
