So I stopped by a Shell Canada Industrial products type outlet (NOT a gas station!) after work today. And I asked them for Roller Bearing Grease, that would last in a outdoor application with moisture and will be exposed to pressure and both extremes of the temperature scale. They pointed me to their Darina EP2 Premium Microgel Grease.

Its rated out of 3 (1 - Execellent, 2 - Very Good, 4 - Good) cause well with anything if its not atleast good in the application and its only "fair" or "poor" no point considering it. :p

Hight Temp - 2
Low Temp - 3
Mechanical Stability - 2
Water Resistance - 2
Anti-Rust - 2
Extreme Pressure - 2

Extreme Wheel Bearing Conditions - 2
Normal Wheel Bearing Conditions - 2
Other Bearings - 2

Now I know what your thinking but I do not work for Shell or own Shares in them, but at 3.44$ Including PST/GST (3.20$ without taxes) for a Grease Gun tube (400gr) I don't think I could go wrong. :p

Give us a report should you subject it to any of the extremes and let us know how it fairs. I intend to take mine out one of these -20 days and let it fully cool down and see how it functions. I'm using a Castrol grease sparingly.

My Shell Lubricants handbook I have says its good from -20C to 160C.

And past 120C it changes from Blue to Green, then to Brown, then to Orange as the temperature builds up. And has a "melt off" or "Drop off" temperature of 260C+.

Well according to Different the rifle is ment to use a NLGI grease with a rating of 2-3 (2.5) and a viscosity of 108-172, and this stuff is NLGI 2 with a viscosity of 170 so thats alright too! :)

I use gun grease (Can't remember the brand, was about 5$ in a white syringe with a cap) that is red in color. I have used it on my glock and 1911 with no ill-affects, and I am now using it on my m14. I have only done indoor shooting however so I have no idea how this stuff fairs outside.

Just DON'T spend a shztload of money on the grease. Don't be a fool like me.

Cold conds ? Snowmobile grease ! Try that stuff and get back to us. Leave your M14 out in the cold hunt or range shack before testing it. Make sure your ammo is cold also, for these experiments.

Enjoy the addiction....
