I had already posted this in the OT but with some urging decided I should put it here. The following is the ultimate economy hunting gun.
I walked into the local gunshop this morning with coffee in hand and wandered the used gun racks for a while. I found a really rough looking Winchester model 70 in 270 win with the factory lightweight fiberglass stock and a set of redfield rings and one piece base. Someone had painted the stock a nice runny tremclad black and it had its fair share of war wounds. It also had been magna-ported. I scooped it for $250. I spend a few hours on it. Custom trigger job, stripped the black paint, sanded and resprayed in olive drab. Lots of oil and 0000 steel wool polished up the bluing. Added a NIB ($257.89) Tasco World Class 3-9 with BDC turret that I traded a free snowmobile for,
and added a $40 Harris bipod. Total investment in this gun start to finish was under $325.
Looks pretty good too. I can't wait to sight it in next week.
