Cheap partners

I don't know if I'm just unlucky, but with two exceptions, my hunting partners have been extremely cheap.

I like to plan ahead and make sure I have all the supplies I think we'll need. When I ask the guys I hunt with if they want to split the cost of these supplies, they say no because they don't need them.

Then hunting day comes, and guess what? They're suddenly asking if they can borrow latex gloves, soap, paper towels, and so on.

I know these things aren't expensive, but what I don't understand is why people are unwilling to contribute to the cost but have no problem using everything for free.

Does anyone else experience this, or am I just unlucky with my hunting partners?

And of course they don’t have a tarp because I always bring and extra one.

I would be hunting once with those types. Just shows a general lack of decency respect and character.
Enough said

Some guys are always looking for hunting partners… and that’s the first sign.

Then there’s some guys out there who constantly have others bugging them to “tag along”.

Then there’s the friend groups who’ve been hunting together for decades and continue to do so without anybody joining or leaving the group.

I had a friend that never chipped in for gas, always made me drive, never considerate about the small things and always trudged mud or snow into the truck. Even had the balls to put his feet up on the dash once.
Dropped him like a bad habit and never looked back. I get OP tho. hard to do and leaves a bad taste in the mouth. He was/is a good friend.
Do I miss the companionship? Sometimes. There were good times, but the bad easily outweighed everything else.

Costs typically get split evenly with the group I hunt with. For a day trip we usually take my truck and my hunting partner insists on filling up the tank. If we rent a cabin for a few days we’ll split that evenly. Groceries for a hunting trip everyone picks a meal that they’re supplying, or one person goes grocery shopping and we all split the bill. everyone bring beer or wine or whisky. Small items we make a list of what we need and we decide who brings what. We never get bent out of shape over a pair of gloves, or roll of paper towels, but it’s a two way street. We will often tell each other not to buy something because someone else is already bringing that item. What is cheap to you might not be cheap to someone else. If someone with significantly more disposable income is demanding we purchase a nice to have but not necessary item for a trip it might not be fair to request that cost be split evenly. Also, new hunters may not realize they need something until a few trips in. First time I’d give them a pass in your situation, but if someone is consistently not chipping in for items that then can afford and are required for a trip, I wouldn’t continue inviting them.
