Hey All,

I'm a noob to the world of Gunnutz and to shooting trap for that matter and am trying to accumulate trigger time while keeping costs down. SO, I am curious if any fellow Van Islanders have a source on cheap(er) bulk shells for shooting trap/skeet/sporting clay at the recreational level? Any thoughts would be appreciated as my go-to is Crappie tire for 45$/100 shells, which I am lead to believe is not such a deal.

Thx in advance.

You are correct, that is not a good deal.

Cabela's in Nanaimo when they have a sale, buy a flat or two at least, if you are a low key shooter. Most or at least many Trap and Skeet clubs have a bulk buy for members. Make friends, join a club, get in on the deal. Join a club anyway - support your local organization.
Last hope is the gun show circuit, though the shotshell bargains have been thin on the ground lately in my experience.
The point is, when you see a bargain going by you have to be prepared to stock up.

Seconded on buying bulk at your club. Also, Federal had a rebate program right now that helps and the awesome annual Winchester AA rebate programs start in mid-April.

I shake my head when I see people buying those 100 packs of Winchester Universals. I am not in B.C., but I just purchased 10 flats of the Kent Velocity loads for less than what people pay for the Crappy Universals.

Typically they are the high velocity rounds which are not great target loads.

Their light target or extra light target are decent shooters but rarely go on sale.

What was a flat going for this year? I think I might have to put another order in next fall.

I O on Douglas north of tolmie typically has flats around 80-85 (250 rounds). Crappy tire in Langford will run 75-80 for a flat of challenger.

Those 100 packs from C tire and Walmart used to be a smoking deal. At most Walmart’s in America they still are, like everything in Canada sometimes we don’t have a choice, only game in town.

Hey now, I shot a 24 on skeet last weekend with the challenger 1oz high velocity loads, they cant be that bad.

And they cycled my semi very nicely.

Of course they work just fine. It’s just there is better.

Some semi’s sometimes need more drama to cycle. Simply hitting targets and cycling isn’t setting the bar very high.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. I was planning to check out I O at my next opportunity. As always, would like to support local.

Just keep in mind they are often much more expensive than our site sponsors for the really fun stuff.

But do they ship direct or are you doing bulk orders as a club? If youre ordering to your house, how does that work with verifying your PAL? Does shipping costs counter the deal of the shells? (my apologies, again, new to the game)

Late to the game but I'm in Vic too. By my math, to the cost of gas unless you're going up to Cabelas anyways its cheaper and less of a hassel to just order online. Some sites will have cheap/free shipping deals or a good enough sale on a box to make it worth it.

If you really want to buy from a brick and mortar store then go to Pullens in town.
