Cheap Revolvers

Ok so I know immediately entering this forum most have an attitude such that cheap knock offs are bad blah blah whatever. Anyways:

My question, does there exist any type of cheap knock off revolvers? Like I'm thinking something along the lines of a DA modern revolver in say .357mag for the heck of it.

There are tons of Norinco semi's that are under $300 brand new but they don't do (as far as I know) revolvers. Even on the EE a well used Taurus 66 which some people apparently detest for being unreliable and blowing up in your face, goes for about $400.

My only speculative answer is that revolvers inherently require a certain amount of effort to be manufactured to spec? Anybody?

More precision in manufacturing a DA revolver compared to an auto. A crappy DA revolver wouldnt' be any fun, and you would probably only shoot it SA.

Auto's can be made with loose tolerances, and sloppy fit, requiring little hand fitting and simple assembly.

Revolvers have to be hand fitted and timed properly.

They also typically are chambered in magnum calibres requiring strength even in the small parts. This is where the cheap revolvers fail.

Charter Arms makes cheap revolvers but a steady diet of magnum loads, is certain to destroy them in quick order. And before anyone jumps on me on this one I am referring to the new cheap ones not the older ones which had some quality.

The "cheap" ones are the Ruger GP100's. But they are only "cheap" compared to the S&W option.

The occasional Llama shows up used but having handled one chambered in .44Mag I would not buy any Llama guns. Even for cheap.

For new Taurus is a bit cheaper than the Ruger option and they are being sold by a few dealers. But I've seen and heard enough tales of them needing to go back for warranty work that I don't like their QC process. But once sorted out they seem to be a solid enough gun. So if yoiu were to buy one and luck out with one that is good out of the box you'd be fine for some years to follow.

In terms of the cheapest you'll find in Canada for revolvers I'd say that the Charter Arms guns from Elwood Epps is pretty much the only choice. Link to Epps and check out the prices from the banner at the top of the page. I can't comment on what a CA gun is like as I've never even seen one let alone handled or shot one.

But in terms of really cheap sub $400 there's nothing at all.
