Cheap Rifles for Mouse/ Pest Eradication

I think 1/2 you guys must be nuts. lol A big springer for mice? BB guns indoors? Ever tried it? 500fps on a mouse and you may as well be just shooting at a wall. The mouse won't even slow the pellet down! lol Steel BBs ricochet like a MF...so not only a bad choice indoors, but potentially dangerous as well. My opinion? Get a cheap Crosman pumper like a 760. The things are even grooved for a scope. A pistol like a 1377 would be good (I've had one for 30 years) and add the $15 dollar plastic stock Crosman makes. You can even buy scope mounts for it. Light/compact and you can pump it up to the power-level you want. Wadcutter pellets would be great~let the mouse fur fly! :)

The only "mousing" I so is in barns once I've shot, or scared all the pigeons out. You need to be quick though. They're fast, and blend-in well.

If you really want them dead, traps with peanut butter have been the most effective for me, but if you want a little sport...follow the above mentioned advice. :)

I've seen too many squirrels slink away from under 500fps pellets to recommend anything under a pal rated pellet gun.
500fps will kill the majority, but there's still going to be some that get away when you miss the head and hit the body.

For rats, poison/traps is the only sure way to go from my experience. And as mentioned, rat traps for squirrels work good too. Squirrel numbers are low enough that shooting the odd one you see is good enough.
Like rats, you're only going to see a fraction of the mice that are actually around. So take the trap advice from the guys here if serious about denting their population.

I too find BB's work best on mice. They dont pass through and kill quickly. Safety glasses are a must! They do ricochet!
Trouble is you rarely see them. Even if you do, they skitter about so quickly, it's difficult to get a shot off. If you see mice during the day, you have a serious infestation!
I agree with the recommendation of the Crosmsn 760.

If indoors and in an attic, pistol would be better. You would want something with a fast follow up shot so you might want to look at C02. Multi pump will take too long to reload.

Those Crosman Vigilante revolvers you can get refurbished ones for around 50$ you can use BB or Pellet. BB is a 6 hot and Pellet is 10 shot. Its around 450 FPS.

Rail on the bottom for a flashlight or laser. Rail on top for a reddot.

6 shot burst....

I went with a Ruger Blackhawk 1000 fps air rifle. It's a Chinese clone of a Diana 34 and it is a good rifle for $160 including the scope and rings.

I'd also go with the peanut butter on the popcan over the water bucket as well.

Both good recommendations.... However, if you use automotive radiator fluid instead of water, it eliminates the smell of the mice decaying......

Sorry, but I beg to differ on the smell. I use prestone in my bucket traps and I'll tell you the stench from as little as 3 dead mice would make a vulture gag!

I have a really cheap Chinese rifle my Dad gave me, they sell for $30 or so and there isn't any plastic on it anywhere. My Dad rescued mine out if the garbage at work, it was returned because it would randomly fire. I took it apart and filed the sear so that it engages now and 500 or so pellets later it is still good. Shoots decently accurate and great for small pest around the yard. Must be at close to 500fps, it will bury a .177 pellet into a 2x4 pretty far.
